Heard an interesting take on what it would take for UT to play in the sugar. Not playing devils advocate but it involved UF beating LSU (not going to happen) and due to the fact that LSU loses to Uf, AU will lose or could lose to bama,UF will get beat down by bama and most likely FSU, and LSU beats TA&M, that would make UT the second highest ranked SEC team. Not sure how this would play out but from a money stand point, UT would sell the superdome OUT and I would at least order four. Thoughts?

For reference, this may be the article you're referring to.

Tennessee Volunteers

Record: 7-3 (3-3 SEC)

Rank: No. 19

Remaining games: vs. Missouri, at Vanderbilt

The skinny: This was another head-scratcher by the committee. Evidently, a win over Kentucky can elevate you from unranked to No. 19 in the playoff rankings. Did the committee just forget about Tennessee’s loss to South Carolina? Either way, the fortuitous ranking gives the Volunteers a chance to still make a New Year’s Six bowl. First, they need Florida to loss against LSU on Saturday. That would put Tennessee back in the driver’s seat in the SEC East. Then, there are various outcomes that could send this team to the Sugar Bowl, but ultimately, it might still require a win over Alabama in the SEC championship game.

Would much rather LSU beat Florida and us win the east. Going to Atlanta is more important than a better bowl game imo

It is possible to have our cake and eat it too.

Get to the SEC CG, and as long as we make it a good game, voters (both CFP and AP/Coaches) will see significant improvement over how we performed the 3rd Sat in Oct. In other words, if we keep it close in Atlanta, we won't be hurt by a loss there. We could even rise a bit in the rankings.

But we would still need LSU to lose to A&M, and Bama to beat Auburn, the Saturday after next, for us to get ahead of those 2 teams and take the #2 spot.

Then we're in the New Years Six Sugar Bowl after being in Atlanta.

Go Vols!

That's how I see it as well. Bama is beating people so badly right now, that a close loss to them in the SECCG could give UT a tremendous boost.

I've been saying since before the season that I would absolutely love a Sugar Bowl berth. Love New Orleans and I would love to see a game in the Superdome.

And of course depending on how things shake out, it could be a possibility!

I think that there have been several years where the loser of the SECCG got a worse bowl than the final higher ranked team. Last years loser Florida went to the Citrus bowl and Ole Miss went to the Sugar Bowl.

The one thing in our favor is that EVERY bowl knows how well we travel!!

Having been to the last 2 bowls, I can tell you they were Home Games for US!!

I have a close friend who is an LSU alum.
I talked to him today, apperantly the Tigers are highly motivated to win out.

Two goals,
Secure a trip to the sugar bowl and keep coach O.

I'll never forget the 1985 game against Miami in the Dome. What a great time on Bourbon Street after the game.:rock::rock:

I hope they run Florida out of the stadium. It's a shame they wouldn't agree to play that game at night. Bunch of pu****'s.

I also hope Coach O gets to keep that job.

Keeping it close against Alabama involves what? If Kentucky can torch us like they did, I see no reason Alabama can't hang 60 on us the next time around. Not trying to sound like a Nega-Vol, and Lord knows I am not normally one, but I look at things logically (a shortage around here) and unless our defense drastically improves (DRASTICALLY), I don't think we can keep it close.

I'd just be happy to be in Atlanta because that's more than 6 other teams in our division can say. Anything can happen but I don't have my hopes up.

Flame away.

It's actually the usual trend of how the bowl selections go.
