So it's obvious that the championship hopes that I’m sure a lot of us felt when the vols( more importantly Jonathan Crompton) looked like the vols of old against wku has definitely worn off. Now I ask what does everyone need to see this year to call this season a success? Week to week improvement? A certain number of wins? Beating Alabama? How do you guy’s measure success

I want and 9-4 yr in which we beat Alabama and win our bowl game. Regardless though we do have the #5 recruiting class as of right now so were looking good

here's what would be a good season. 7-5 regualar season, with consistent improvement throughout the season and a very good showing in the bowl game.

7-5 will be good with a good solid bowl win. Our problem of late (with the 2002 Citrus and 2005 Cotton Bowls as the exceptions) have been our mediocre play in bowls. Bowls make a good recruiting boast and an added confidence for the following season.

You needed to stop smoking crack about a month ago, my friend.

Week to week improvement. A killer recruiting class. A bowl game.

If you're asking to go 9-4 with a win in Tuscaloosa with the offensive players that Fulmer left Kiffin, then you might as well go ahead and wish for your lottery check to be delivered by five naked supermodels, each carrying a six pack of beer. We are not winning nine games until we get a quarterback and an OL.

I think a bowl game would be a successful season and is the most any Vol fan could expect this year.

But I fear a lot depends on how we come out of the next game. This game could build momentum for a very successful season in a very tought month, or it could get ugly fast. I think if we lose (even lose close a la one yard against UCLA) the coaches are going to have to work like heck (and change things) to salvage morale, salvage the rest of the season. I fear it could start rolling downhill for this team if we don't get a win.

And that might mean CLK has to pull his starting QB at some point in the Auburn game to get something going. That is not the worst thing that could happen, and it happens quite a bit in college football. He should have said both QBs would get game snaps from the beginning, but he took a gamble he could get JC to SEC calibre after four games if he backed him 100%.

Let's hope his gamble pays off on Sat.

What he failed to mention is the beer is Steel Reserve.
So looks like the joke is on you...

I'm going to be happy with improving week to week, maybe beating a team we shouldn't between now and the end of the season and going to a bowl game...Whether we go 8-4 or 6-6, either way is an improvement over last season IMO...Saban went 6-6 his first year and then look what happened in his 2nd year..I don't think Kiffin will be as lucky as Saban...Shula could recruit he just couldn't develop talent

Frankly, it's going to be very hard to tell if we improve week to week. Our offense is going to look really rough almost every game. Our defense will be OK, but will give up some yards in its effort to generate turnovers.

If we run the ball and limit Crompton from making mistakes, we will go to a bowl game. If Kiffin tries to let Crompton throw it, we may still make it but it will be a challenge.

I think a sucessful season would be, To end up in the top 3 in recruiting! We are just not going to win many games with the quarterbacks we have now!

somebody needs to stop smoking crack and read the thread correctly. i asked what IN YOUR OPINION would be a successful season not what i expected to happen. if we go 6-6 and use the "well we didn't have a qb excuse" IM not gonna consider that a successful season. And our offensive Line is playing good football, the OL is not the best in the country but not a huge Weakness on this team, our OL is above average. You might be happy with looking foward to next year but i have higher expectations for this team. SO put down YOUR pipe, have faith in our coaches, and SUPPORT the VOLS.

My expectations haven't waivered one bit. I expect 8 wins. One of those was UCLA, so Lane better pull out a win in a game they will be dogs.

Even 6-6 would be an improvement over last year, and would match what Saban did in his first year at Bama (with better talent than us, I might add).
