The same battle that we have going on in our few hundred post student ticket thread here is going on over on Facebook as well. Here are the highlights:

There is a 5,600 person group entitled "Students against paying for football games in '08." There are a few constant posters that are fighting the battle as well as those who joined the group just to argue. Josh Briscoe is "moderating" the arguments by throwing in facts from the AD and that is keeping the "student activity fee" argument from being plausible. There are also pictures of Mike Hamilton that have photoshopped devil horns on his head.

There is a 1,000 member group entitled "Students for boycotting the first football game of '08." Not much going on over there, but the leaders of this group are encouraging to write state legislators.

There is a 500 member group entitled "Wear Black to the O/W Game in Protest of Paying for Student Tickets." These students are planning to protest at the Vol Walk and planning to make signs to take into the game "for the TV cameras." They are of course planning to wear black.

What are your takes on this? I personally don't like any ideas of boycotting or protesting. This is only going to bring negative publicity to the university.

what's college without a few protests? If they really want to protest something tell them to find a worthy cause. It's hard to feel empathy over tickets to a game.

They're going to spend more money protesting than they would on the ticket. Instead of protesting, why don't they go out and get a part-time job, work two days, quit, and use that money to buy their season ticket?

It is complete garbage. If they want to voice their opinion, it needs to be to the AD directly. Boycotting, protesting, etc is just a bad publicity move right in the midst of recruiting season, and on a day where families just want to come out and have a good afternoon.

If they want to protest, and if they want to boycott, they are dead to me. I don't want them at the game. It's a 90.00 OPTIONAL fee that they got their panties all bunched up over.

God forbid our student body argue, protest, or work for something that matters. The sense of entitlement held my generation is astounding. It transcends UT into their everyday lives. They think someone should be there to give them a handout, whether it be money, grades, jobs, etc.

Not many have pride in their jobs, or in the work they do for school. As long as they can get "totally wasted" on wednesday night, they don't care to plagiarize.

Rational thought has escaped the vast majority of my peers. Reminds me of Hook..."I want, I want, I want. Me, me, me. Now, now, now."

Do they not realize that every school except us, Vandy, and USCe has been charging students something for tickets for years now?

Oh well...at least there not hugging trees...I'd hate for my alma mater to be assosiated with that sort of hippy crap

Maybe Mike should go back in time and institute a small fee in 2003. That way, it's normal, and it's the past, so it is "the way things were."

That is crazy...they DO NOT have to pay the $90.00! And apparently they don't care that it will look bad on THEIR SCHOOL!

Pictures of Mike Hamilton with Devil horns sounds more like a middle school protest.

I'm sure they care.

It's in the fricking Constitution: The right to free tickets for football. It's right after the right to bear arms.

Anyone that protests having to pay 90.00 to see 7 UT homegames is an idiot.

I wish Hamilton should commission the creation of Ticket Torch. That way, we could let the poor, mistreated students stand next to the stadium and protest the torch as it heads to the ceremonial lighting of the Funding Fire.

actually I would prefer MH get his hands on a #90 UT jersey and wear it to the game. Would be great to see their faces as he strolled by waving

Will there be free food? Our students won't show up to anything unless there's a handout. It's like street people who go home at night.
