Didn't Jamal Lewis bench like 500 his freshman year?

Rumor is Jamal Lewis and Shawn Bryson got in a bench press contest and I think the coaches had to stop them at like 450 for fear one would get hurt.

That whole team was pretty insanely strong and fast. Pretty sure Shawn is the fastest fullback in the history of college athletics.

That's because he was really a tailback that was forced into the FB spot. Remember that TD run against Florida?

Albert Toeaina had a pretty stout bench max. Don't remember how high, though over 600 comes to mind.

Vladimir Richard was said to be in the 600 club as well. He also really "looked" the part.

It was Al Wilson and Jamal. Stucky stopped them at 460. Discussed during the 98 Florida game i believe.

Shawn Bryson and Peerless raced and Bryson won. Watch the SECCG in 97 and watch bryson catch the dude on the INT return.

Travis Henry hurt his knee in the summer (was expected to play ahead of Jamal as a freshman) doing 20 reps of 545 squat.

Jamal after he hurt his knee against Auburn was told to stop curling and pressing while he sat around watching TV because his upper body was getting too big. The same thing happened in the NFL and he changed his training regimen. He is not a murderer like Ray Lewis, but if he decided to put in some time to learn UFC, he could hurt some people.

Will Bartholemew was a human block of muscle at 245 with less than 8% fat at FB. Well before he started D1, he was considered one of the strongest and most complete athletes on the football team in terms of lifting.

I bet by the end of the summer Mckeefery will have some heroic gains to highlight for some Vols. I hope that amongst the group leading the way are the OL and DL. I also want a Justin Hunter who can knock down a DB.

I do, straight up the gut. I was going nuts. Shawn is from my home town, so always watched him close.

Shawn's speed was insane, and yes, Shawn and Peerless race was crazy, cause I am pretty sure it was on scout day at Tennessee and most guys wont do that. Shawn and Peerless were roommates and had a good time with it. And heck, they both ran sub 4.4 so it hurt neither.

All very true, the good old days for sure...but no one back then messed with Fred Weary. National Champion Heavyweight Wrestler in high school, benched around 505 at 6'4" 300 on the nose.

Mike Mayock was the sideline reporter who was discussing it in the 98 Florida game. How fast was Marcus Nash? Remember him sprinting up the sideline in that Title 97 game.
