This is an interesting take, makes you wonder how much attrition will happen this spring/summer.

ESPN analyst: Jeremy Pruitt 'needs to run some guys off' Tennessee football team

We didn't win an sec game last year. I'm gonna say we have a few players not good enough to play. Pruitt wants championships at this point and I'm sure he sees that we have a long way to go. If he's bringing in legit players then cut bait. I hope quite a few leave the program. McKenzie was so soft he declared for the draft where he will be a ua no doubt.

Players will leave naturally when they get their feelings hurt that they don't have a coach that coddles them like Jones did. No more everyone gets a trophy. Our coach knows their are only a few trophies that matter: sec and nc.

Vince Wilfork had 16 sacks in a 13 year NFL career. Defensive Tackle stats aren't all about sacks. Although I agree that McKenzie didn't live up to his billing, its a fact that he's graded out highly as a tackle throughout his career here. According to profootballfocus.com, he "earned the No. 2 ranked overall grade (78.6) among returning Power 5 interior defenders with less than 200 defensive snaps." (referring to the 2016 season coming into 2017 after injury.)

"McKenzie also ranked No. 2 against the run among that same group of interior defenders, posting an 80. 4 run defense grade.
Though his pass-rush repertoire is limited, McKenzie picked up a bull rush pressure once every 18.7 rushes, which ranked No. 1 in the draft class. He also ranked No. 1 in pass-rush productivity from a two-point stance at 26.8."

So the people that grade the position thought pretty highly of his performance.

Are you sayin it's a team game?

Another built in excuse from yet another set of coaches to lose games for a few years.

Nobody on the Tennessee coaching staff was even quoted as a part of this column in the OP. This is strictly the opinion of Cole Cubelic who has no ties to Tennessee. If Jeremy Pruitt or any member of his staff has given a proactive excuse for losing future games, I haven't seen it anywhere. You seem quick to accuse them of being "excuse makers" without any evidence of such. Complaining about coaches making excuses for losing games which haven't even been played yet is negativity on whole new level... even for VN.

All these coaches read from the same coaching vernacular playbook and offer their own variations of the plays to the press.

You wanna thrown on a UT cheerleading outfit and revel in all things Pruitt...be my guest.

I'll believe in the guy and be positive when I see some positive results on the field.

I am a big fan of Shy, but to be honest I think Shy looks better "because" of KM, taking on the double team, on most plays. Km will be a 2nd rounder, and have a fine pro career.

Kahlil seem like a good guy, but comparing his play to his Dad's? Seems to me the acorn fell far from the tree. Some of that is probably injury related, but IMO, he isn't the impact player his Dad was. I would think he drops to the third or fourth round, but hope the last part still happens. But if he can't stay any healthier than he did while in Knoxville, the NFL will mean Not For Long in his case.

He's not wrong. "Run off" may not be the best description, but it's close. Our weak links are weaker than they should be regardless of the reasons. Teams like Memphis have lesser talent and perform better than we have been. This is due to coaching them to have the "will to win". Jones was about "process". Our players were told that as long as they went through the process the wins would come. That is BS. It took the players a few years to see this was not true and when they saw it, they quit.
