Strength and Conditioning?

Our problems are probably not Rock's fault. His resume is better than what we have had in some time. Blame the bone headed way Butch handled the previous hires within that department. Butch's style of micro managing did not help. I remember Rock saying this was a two year deal to get things where they needed to be. Being "soft" is just about as much coaching technique and scheme(apparently ours was lacking) and mental strength(desire/motor) as much as physical strength.

Injuries were rampant a full year before Rock got here. There is no evidence to support his training technique played a role in 2017's injuries.

Having said that it would not surprise me if there is a change. It is an incredibly important role, not only for the football players but the other athletes as well.

GBO!

I disagree. The "O" lines as well as the "D" lines were totally muscled off the lines. They looked like they never saw a weight room. That sits squarely on the S&C coach

You have not seen the player strength charts have you? Those that have saw a definite improvement in a number of areas. Hard to debate one way or the other with all the injuries.

I am so glad someone brought this up. Either Butch was the most unlucky son of a gun or our strength and conditioning has sucked. Every season we seem to have 3x the injuries of everyone else. I am sick of hearing how we would be a good team but are too banged up. I lay that at the feet of the strength and conditioning coach.

If they never saw a weight room, it wasn't on the S&C coach. It was on the head coach and his staff. :)

There are exceptions of course, but a great deal of injuries occur in football when you're not playing the game at full speed. When you're hesitant and apprehensive for lack of knowing whether you're doing the right thing rather than instinctively attacking, injury numbers will rise.

Goes further than that.
Bad technique. Being out of shape.
-Improper lifting and training and conditioning. Don't forget KMac tore a bicep lifting.
Poor fundamentals. Being out of position.

Yeah lets fire a well respected S&C coach with tons of NFL experience because he hasnt turned our program completely around in less than a year. That makes perfect sense.

What makes perfect sense is letting the new head coach hire his guy, the guy he trusts, who hopefully has ties to the Alabama S&C coach.

It's funny how Jones got rid of Lawson but the players were the best and strongest under his S&C program. Lawson wasn't near the caliber we need here but it again shows Jones' incompetence.

If I remember correctly, wasn't Lawson let go because players were whining that he wouldn't let them choose the music being played in the weight room?

We also lost a damn good nutritionist in Allison Maurer around the same time. Players wanted more "fun food."

Inmates running the asylum.

Maybe Butch thought the juice bar was a substitute for hard work and a high quality diet. 🙄

I’ve heard from someone knowledgeable on the situation that Butch started meddling quite a bit in Rock’s S&C program. Apparently, Butch would change some of the workouts around as he didn’t agree with all of Rock’s ideas. Apparently, it made Rock pretty mad too and created a lot of tension between the two. I heard this from a grad assistant at UT that my sister dates.

I heard Rock probably wouldn’t be back but was waiting until it was official to post this.

A total butch flush is necessary.. In fact take an ax to the DJ booth on the sidelines today and tell the band no need to practice the stupid HS circle drill at part of the pregame

When he came on board, I said Rock wasn't a good hire.

In his defense at the time, I also said we would see an improvement in strength. I was wrong. We didn't even get that.

But some fans were giddy about Rock because of his name, and that he was coming from the Rams. The Rams.. 🙄🙄

Thank goodness those same fans weren't allowed to hire the coach.

I was one that thought it was a great hire and I have to admit, boy was I wrong!
