Storming the field has gotten ridiculous

It's going to end with teams having netting in-between the field and stands similar to baseball; but for different reasons.

I “think” the issue I worry about is the safety of the coaches and student athletes. The property damage or whatever isn’t as big an issue. I do think fans should stay in the stands until coaches and athletes have cleared the field. Other than that I don’t have issue with it. The Bama game it was the recruit section that started the field storming.

Storming the field, apparently, happens in cycles. UT stormed the field in the ‘98 UF game, and it was awesome. Then more and more teams did it over the next few years, and it became a problem, with a few people getting hurt. Then schools started beefing up security. I remember being in the stands in the 2004 UF game, and there were about 50 security guards around the student section, trying to prevent the field-storming. One guy actually tried to storm the field. He got tackled and cuffed. Storming the field kind of stopped happening in the 2000s and 2010s. UT made it cool once again in 2022. I think the following next few years, you’ll see more schools with added security at the end of games, and fines being more heavy. The cycle will continue. UT might break the trend again in another 20+ years.

FSU stormed the field in Tallahassee field in 1996 when they beat us 24-21 in the season finale. It was the first time I’d ever seen it done there against us.

Also saw you guys do it in ‘98, Auburn in ‘01, Ole Miss in ‘02 and Mississippi State in ‘04.…oh and LSU in ‘97.

It doesn’t happen in Gainesville, don’t think it ever will. We usually have sheriff‘s deputies lining the field with German shepherds to prevent it from happening. I do remember a student attempting to do it in ‘97 after we upset FSU, and he got hogtied pretty quickly.

It could also result in a student getting trampled like Mufasa.

It’s not cool anymore. It’s played out. Yesterday, we had at least 3 games that ended in field stormings…two of which involved premature field stormings, following by another field storming after the game had officially ended.

It’s old. It’s played out. It’s really not safe. It’s destructive. And they’re now doing it for every minor upset win. Howdo schools, conferences, and the NCAA get this to stop? Fines obviously aren’t working…which was a stupid idea to begin with. It’s not like students care that the school is fined.

Are we gonna start putting up plexiglass like they do for hockey games?
I want to be so good....like bama and uga good...that I don't really get interested until the playoffs or the national championship game. I want bowl games to be a disappointment/bore. I want UT to spoil me. Let it be written, let it be done.

Some of yall don’t remember but we almost stormed the field after beating LSU in 05 and that was an AWAY game! Wound up just singing and burning mattresses in the parking lot across the street 🤣

Let the kids have fun. We got to have ours.

Fans need educated.
Storming should only happen if three conditions exist.
1 - the team is ranked top 3 or 4 in the country.
2 - that team holds a streak of more than 5 wins in a row over your team.
3 - your team is ranked lower.

When UGA comes to Neyland next year and we are ranked say 8 or 10 and they are 1 or 2, when we beat them for the first time in 10 games, the field will be stormed.

Yes, for those keeping up, I was not a fan of storming when we beat Bama this year.
We should never storm the field after beating anyone coming off a Vanderbilt loss. Our students spazzed out this year. Storming the field over a 5-2 opponent with a first year coach is the most Gen Z thing ever.

With fans rushing the field and throwing things onto the fields. I can see stadiums going similar to NHL or MLB and having nets up on the lower bowl seats. Plus if secured to wall under the lowest seats. Fans couldn’t get onto the field.

I'm worried both of Vandy's fans will storm the field if they pull the upset this week.
In 2022 they stormed the field after beating Florida. It was done in a most spectacularly Vanderbilt, singe file, orderly manner.

I've got an add on, but I agree whole heartedly.

4. - The game has to have a somewhat suspenseful conclusion.

You don't have to score as time expires to win the game, but the outcome should be somewhat in doubt until near the end. There's no much point in storming the field in a game you spent over half and hour with a 3 score lead while playing out 10minutes of game clock.

Immediate gratification has gone to a whole new level with the younger generation. Tennessee had to wait over 20 years and a 15 game losing streak to be broken before it stormed the field.

Now, teams have one losing season and they beat a top 25 team they rush the field. They are being over dramatic
