Stokes and the draft

IMHO, I believe its reasonable to think CCM instructed Stokes to be very careful defensively due to having no reliable back up on the bench to replace him in case of foul trouble. Stokes demonstrated quick reflexes on his offensive moves and while grabbing rebounds. Physically, I don't see any reason he couldn't be an average NBA defender able to stay in front of other NBA power forwards. Asking if he can defend James is unfair IMHO as he's an athletic freak and the NBA's best player. From my limited NBA viewing, there's a lot of current NBA guys that don't defend much at all.

No doubt stokes was instructed to stay out of foul trouble and that effected his defense.

No matter what I hope he stays

The 2014 NBA draft has been considered "deep" this year. There are a plethora of athletes coming out. Stokes is considered a 2nd round pick by NBADraft.net and I don't think I've heard of one mock draft with him as a guaranteed contract, 1st Rounder.

Just looking at power forwards coming out that are considered 1st rounders (not including Euros), we have:
Julius Randle
Noah Vonleh
Aaron Gordon
Adriean Payne
Montrezl Harrell

The 2nd Round power forwards are:
Cory Jefferson
James Michael-McAdoo
Johnny O'Bryant
Juvonte Reddic

This is a pretty deep and athletic list of just power forwards. There is a deeper list of the top small forwards this year as well. I think it is really risky for Stokes to come out this year. Do I want Stokes in the NBA? Absolutely! He really has done everything you can ask of him this year and his stock probably isn't going to be higher. This just is not be the best class to come out on IMO. Choose wisely, Stokes!

People only have about a half season of dominance to look at from him. That's the biggest thing holding him back right now. The unknown. If he comes back another season and dominates the whole season, he'd be an easy 1st rounder next year. I've said it before and will now. He might even be a lotto pick in the first 14-16 picks. I've seen him described as 6'7-6'9. He's 6'9 if he's an inch, and weighs 260 at least. He will play in the NBA at Power Forward.

I've stood next to him I'd say 6'7

Stokes will be a beast at Tennessee if he returns. He will sit at the end of the bench if he goes to the NBA this soon. One more year will better prepare him for the NBA and make him a lot more money in the 2015 draft. JMO

You taking about Stokes? I've also stood next to him, and he looks all of 6'8 to me, even on the upper end IMO. Posted a pic a couple months ago when it happened, not that you can see how tall he is from it. This coming from the guy saying Yemi was 6'7 tops lol.

My barber (not a UT fan) was arguing with me yesterday and guaranteeing Stokes would be a lottery pick.

Idk maybe it's because I'm a little tall myself

Stokes is definitely 6'8" IMO.

I stood next to him before the UF-UT game in 2012 outside Neyland. I'm 6'1"ish in shoes, and he towered over me. I would have thought he was 6'9".

Yup. He's probably 6'8.75". Not sure if he's quite 6'9, but elephrhino.

If he does go to the draft, at least we will get to see his true measurables in preseason workouts. Hope he stays though.

Saw this on the NBADraft.net website. Maybe this will help?

Notes: Measured 6'9 (in shoes) 256 lbs, with a 7'1 wingspan at the 2011 LeBron James Skills Academy
