It's amazing how Steve Spurrier, a former coach and consultant for one of our most hated rivals, is actually doing a better job at our coaching search than our Athletic Director.

Steve Spurrier on the Tennessee coaching search on ESPNU Radio: "I think they oughta hire Tee Martin, that would unite the fan base again."

There's a certain level of insanity here. It's plainly obvious that Tee Martin is a much better choice than Dave Doeren or whatever puppet Currie and Haslam will trot out next. I'm not opposed to Kiffin or Leach either, but I realize Kiffin will have a hard time uniting the fan base. Tee Martin has been one of the best position coaches, offensive coordinators, and recruiters in the nation. How do you not hire him over these C- and D-list coaches we're looking at?

Spurrier is likely right on here. However, he is also saying this because he doesn't want Florida to have to compete with Kiffin....

The AD doesn’t want to make the smart decision. It’s apparent. The answers are IN THEIR FACE, but they ignore it.

The admin would rather hire a known mediocre coach out of spite than be told what to do by the fanbase. It it comes across as them giving into the fans, it neuters them and it bad optics. They are not going to have it look like they just hire who the fans demand. In fact, it might be better to lobby against Tee if thats who you want. They might actually do it then.

He didn't say to win, or it was a good hire. Just to unite us.

Unbelievable how inept and incompetent this ADMIN is. Truly leaves me speechless.

You know, I think when kiffin started trolling everyone as our head coach, fans would fall right back in line. Not to mention having our team look like they can actually play football, or how the recruiting class would improve...fans would come along. I think most of us already have

I'm not saying fans have much to do with the product that ends up on the field, but if it were down to:

A. Tee Martin
  • Unproven
  • Unknown Product
  • Unite Fanbase

or:

B. Dave Doeren
  • Proven .500 Coach
  • Proven Mediocre Product
  • Angry Fanbase

Give me an A, Vanna.

i got to a point last night where i finally had to just talk to my wife about this last night. now, she's a tn fan because she knows how important it is to me. she is not aware of any of the goings on or history of how we got here.

and as i was explaining the last 2-3 days to her, she literally just looked at me and asked "why don't you just hire Tee Martin?" w/out provocation.

point being, i think it's safe to say virtually anyone with an ounce of common sense can make this decision.

it is pure insanity what's going on and what's been allowed to happen up to this point.

It's one thing to go after a coach with HC experience. But when that HC's resume is worse than the guy you just fired, then it makes zero sense.

I agree that Kiffin would win, but I think the narrative that Tee Martin wouldn't is false. Sure, he has no head coaching experience, but neither did Mark Richt. Tee has been extremely impressive at everything he's done coaching-wise.

My big fear is that we're going to make some 3rd tier hire like Dave Doeren that dooms us to a ceiling of finishing 3rd in the SEC East, while some other school grabs Tee Martin, and he ends up winning big. To some extent, Steve Spurrier is actually saying "Tennessee, don't make the same mistake you made with me." We passed on Spurrier as a player and it was a huge mistake. Unless we're getting a 1st Tier proven coach like Mike Leach or Scott Frost, Tee Martin is really the only acceptable solution IMO. You can not pass on a guy with his resume for some 3rd tier coach. Tee's a risk because he hasn't been a head coach before, but everything else in his resume screams out "WINNER!"

At least Spurrier is no dummy. I miss him besides getting beat by him at Florida. I am originally from Johnson City and always like him. If Tennessee wasn’t set in its ways and changed offense he would have been a legend here.
