Stephens' play so far

I don't think he's much different than Crompton. Awful throws game in and game out. The difference is the receivers.
True, 0 interceptions. How many interceptions SHOULD he have had against UGA, though? UGA missed at least 3 interceptions that were easy picks.

All I'm saying is that Stephens is just another Crompton. He makes bad throws (in his first game he was wildly out of control and got lucky with the receivers making shockingly good plays). Last night he had Foster wide open in the 1st quarter when he went in motion to the left. I said he shouldn't throw it to Foster cause Foster would drop it. Turns out he did throw it, and Foster did catch it. Only problem was that he caught it off the bounce. Against UGA, on the play where it almost got picked, then Jones made the big play...Yeah, he totally had a receiver streaking down the left sideline with a good 7-10 yards on his CB with no safety in sight...

His deep ball is BS at best. Every time the receiver has to wait on it. He doesn't have the strength to hit the receiver in stride.

...I think it's time people take a step back, pull off the anti-Crompton glasses, and see him for what he really is.

If Stephens had the opportunity to hand the ball off to Creer 25 times a game, he would ultimately improve even more. This guy can find the creases, especially IF he is given ENOUGH opportunities. Then, it would open up the passing game enough for Stephens strong arm to be even more of a factor.

Creer looked great last night against MSU in that final drive. The bulldogs had pretty much given up after two defensive touchdowns though. He should get more of an opportunity than he has had. Though I wonder if he will do any better than Hardesty and Foster with the way the O-line is playing. I hope he gets a bunch of carries against Bama. Then we will see what he is made of.

No INT's, handing the ball off without fumbling it, and simple game management have been better than Crompton. Stephens can make all the throws and has shown some good mobility......Bama could be a true coming out game for him....

Add to that no balls in the dirt or 2nd and 3rd row bleachers or the camera guy or the cheerleaders or security people or.....

If you think he's no better than Crompton, you either 1. are Crompton's mom 2. didn't see Crompton play.

He's looks like a typical UT QB in the first year as a starter with typical growing pains, i.e. Clauson, Manning, Tee Martin, etc. Lots of mistakes but lots of glimpses of potential too.

...but I have my doubts. I did not think he played very well last night, and the 0 interceptions could easily be 6 to 8 with the number of "dropped" interceptions from the defenses we have faced.

Let's hope "it" all comes together Saturday evening 10/25, and then we can start the comparisons to the above, especially CC...Peyton and Tee, "not so much."

You know, on VolNation Live tonight, Larkin had a dissertation on how much better we are with Stephens and how he's head and shoulders above Crompton.

I agree with crusse10 slightly that their could be 3-4 int right now but where dropped. Our receivers are building confidence in Stephens with every snap and as they do they will continue to make catches. That opens up the line were everyone has had 7-9 guys in the box on a regular basis to stop the run. Take them back to 4-6 in box and then our rb's can start running like we know they can.
And Stephens is managing the game pretty well for only his 3rd game.
I give him an overall B- after 3 games

In my opinion, he is mediocre at this point (but with significant "headroom" to grow). With that said, he is light years ahead of the worthless Crompton. Had the clueless coaching staff benched him after (or during) the UCLA game, we might be 4-3 or 5-2 instead of 3-4
