nothing flashy so far, but the biggest thing that has stood out to me is his focus and he doesn't get rattled. The biggest stat would be the big 0 in the INT column.

He had his worst game last night, but he hasn't made many bonehead plays and managed the game well. Hopefully he keeps improving week to week and we can get a win against Bama.

While he is very fortunate to have 0 interceptions, he manages the game very well, and you can see him getting better week after week. The same couldn't be said for Crompton.

Steady enough to have beatin ucla and auburn. He's not getting us beat thats the biggest thing.

Showing flashes of something unheard of: GOOD QB play.

Finding Taylor in the corner of the endzone while on the move was the most impressive play so far, as much as I love his deep ball

He looks like he has the potential to improve greatly I think into a pretty good SEC QB before he is done at Tennessee. I don't think that he will be one of the all time greats or anything, but he should be good enough to win with even against the better opponents in the future IMO.

W/ no INT's & poise in the pocket, he has shown a lot for a young QB that we can see for the next couple of years while he improves his play.

He is tons better than Crompton. Is Crompton going to be moving to linebacker or fullback now? I noticed they put B.J. Coleman end at the end of the game last night. Does this mean Crompton is now 3rd team QB?

He's looks like a typical UT QB in the first year as a starter with typical growing pains, i.e. Clauson, Manning, Tee Martin, etc. Lots of mistakes but lots of glimpses of potential too.

I noticed that he did not look comfortable and his mechanics looked off, esp. his foot work. But that is fixable and his problem might have been he was just rushing his throws. With every practice and game rep he can only get better.

No INT's, handing the ball off without fumbling it, and simple game management have been better than Crompton. Stephens can make all the throws and has shown some good mobility......Bama could be a true coming out game for him....

I wish I could find what's wrong with our O. Stephens has the potential but somethings missing

True. They have a hard time getting into any sort of rhythm. They have no identity. It is like, let’s throw a lot of plays at them and hope something works.

I get the sense they got into a little bit of a rhythm on the drive to start the 2nd half but I was getting a hotdog and missed it. :)

with 8 men in the box to stop the run on a lot of plays, Stephens should be throwing for more yards. He's played well, but not sure he is making the correct reads and checking to the correct play. He's better then Crompton so far.

I look for good things from Stephens, especially next year after he's had the majority of snaps during spring and preseason. He's not beating us, which is a huge improvement. I trust him.

In my opinion, he is mediocre at this point (but with significant "headroom" to grow). With that said, he is light years ahead of the worthless Crompton. Had the clueless coaching staff benched him after (or during) the UCLA game, we might be 4-3 or 5-2 instead of 3-4

I think for the position he's in, he's doing good. He has no run game at all, its not like he can hand the ball of and expect 5 ypc. I know he isn't the best QB, but its not like he has any help.

Stephens looks like a green sophomore with a good arm but learning where to go with the ball and the added 'hampering' of an OL that sucks...sort of like what it looks like.

You need to be able to protect a guy like and give him things he can do, but we're not getting any of that.

terrible offensive line play from a real group of veterans. Probably the most disappointing aspect of the entire year. I agree Nick isnt breaking records but he is playing miles better than Crompton. Once he gets some confidence from the run game and the offensive line i think his foot work and secondary reads will improve too. Maybe Nick needs to start talking the boys out for barbeque once a week and try to bribe them into better play.

we know all too well what a qb will do with all the time in the world to make a play.

Thing is if he starts the season instead of Crompton we're 5-2 at least right now and Fulmer isn't on the hot seat. As a student at UT I want Fulmer to stay so I don't spend my last years here watching some other coach try to rebuild. Also this year's recruiting class looks to be the best in a few years, assuming we don't kick Phil to the curb.

He has been doing pretty well. He has potential and does not get rattled. I think the word for him is "serviceable".
