Status update needed for: Sapp, Phillips, A.Smith

I saw Phillips on the sideline. In full gear. He's just unfortunately not proven to be a baller so far. It's crazy these recruiting rankings are totally based on talent, not how competitive they are. For example, Josh Malone was a way higher ranked recruit that Calloway. Yet, in his first real action Calloway was more agressive and competitive than I ever remember Malone being. He almost did nothing until his junior year. And even then he only had a few really memorable plays.
I was so excited about Phillips based on his "talent", but he's done next to nothing. There was even talk of him leaving after his freshman year...not exactly the hallmark of a competitor and a champion

Phillips and Sapp played. Sapp had 1 tackle. Wiggins is still working back from a hip pointer.

We need Wiggins or another CB to step up. Justin Martin had a rough game against Tech and we need some more depth anyway.

Did Wiggins play?

Phillips played quite a bit. No issues that I saw.

Had a decent game, its hatd for DL against teams like GT who cut block. One thing i saw is the defensive scheme was very odd. For instance they were crashing hard on the side opposite of the direction the play went. Then GT stayed the delayed cut back plays. Also in the secondary aganst a run first team the cb were 8 yds off the ball. This is what Larry Slade used to call bail out ball. The Db group as a whole took bad angles, got blocked all night, and looked shaky. I was a Shoop fan but I'm really not feeling it right now. Football is not rocket science, hell Saban takes Foster who I've met and know isn't Einstein but lets him seek and destroy. We had Gavin Bryant and said he wasn't smart enough, but played slow Jumper who misses play after play. Jus my .02

Phillips played on many occasions Monday night. Was in on more than a few stops. Along with Kongbo and Taylor, we have three good DEs, maybe more.

Malone made a lot of plays as a SO. Had he been 3* rated, you would have thought he was doing plenty. Callaway did have a big game and made 3 fantastic catches/plays of his 4. He entered the game as a backup.

Speaking of Kongbo, I don't remember his name being called once. Same with Phillips. These guys need to step up from here on out. I'm no coach or anything, but it seems to me that the DE's could have been key to stopping a lot of things before they got to the edge. I only noticed Taylor really disrupting things.

I don't think so. I think they still do not think he's healthy enough.

Smith didn't play due to an injury. Not many details have been given.

Not sure about Sapp.

I don't believe that Wiggins is injured. No evidence just a feeling.

Yeah, and that's extremely scary since he struggled that much against a team that rarely passes it. It was simple routes and Georgia Tech's QB exposed him. And what was even worse was his poor attempt at tackling the WR after the catch, they seemed to just run right by him.

How do you misspell Larry Slade?
