Stats That Exist, But Don’t Matter: Head Coach Word Counts

- Clark Lea’s desperate attempt to convince us that Vandy matters.
Evidently he got one guy to believe...or maybe that guy was the only one still awake after that lengthy monologue.

I wonder too, in Kirby's and Saban's word count, did the ahhhhhh and ummmmmm get counted as actual words?
Some have mentioned Heupel's cough as annoying or distracting, but I can hardly to listen to either one of them without just hearing one long string of ummmmm, ahhhhh...

Its looking more and more like we dodged a bullet there too. His offense is fun to watch, but everything else he does is like watching paint dry to me.

Does he even recruit? 11/14 in the SEC means you are going to continue to fizzle out.

I'm not huge Leach guy, but where do you think he should land in the SEC recruiting rankings at MS St? Looks about right to me.

A lot of people outside UT like to claim that Heupel’s offense is a „gimmick“. No, but if you. DO want to see a gimmick offense, look to Leach. We got the better of the two BY FAR (at least for SEC level play)

He evaded the question of "whose side he was on" Saban vs. Jimbo. I presume he is just watching the NIL train leave the station and he's just not feeling it. I'm sure they aren't figuring on "winning" the NIL arms race.

With his name recognition, i would expect him to at least be middle 1/3, not bottom 1/3. He certainly has a better reputation as an offensive guru than most of the coaches in the bottom half of the conference, so i would think decent Qbs and WRs would want to come. Maybe he will surprise me but he is currently ranked
11/14, so he better get to work. Next year or two he will be 13/16 if he doesn’t figure something out.

He will definitely be 13/16 when Texas and OU arrive. I don’t think he’s ever been a great recruiter either, but Miss St. has more to do with low SEC recruiting rankings than Leach, I assume.

It has to be a tough gig convincing blue chips to sign up for the ‘never was’ in Starkville.

Leach is a clown

He’s also an ass. I don’t get why so many people love jerks because they think they’re cute or funny.

Leach has never won a conference championship in 22 or so years as a power 5 head coach. He might be the most overrated coach in America. Actually, since Harbaugh broke through last year, I don’t think there’s any doubt he is.

Mike Leach is a funny guy to have around. As long as you're willing to listen. Because he's not a good conversationalist, just a good talker.

And that quirky, somewhat awkward way he has doesn't translate well to living rooms with parents. When it's time to talk seriously about a young man's future as a potential member of Mike Leach's football team, I have a feeling a lot of parents just don't know how to take him. Aren't sure if he's ready to really focus on their lad's development.

So yes, the man is entertaining. But also weird. He was never a good fit for Tennessee. Truth be told, he's not a good fit for most places. But in every conference there is a Mississippi State, or Washington State, or Texas Tech, usually a lesser brother among a roomful of peers, a place that doesn't take itself too seriously because of the crowd around it. That's where Mike Leach fits best.

He's in a good spot for him. We're in a good spot with Josh Heupel. Never the twain should meet, except maybe on the football field every 2-3 years.

Go Vols!

People have definitely had success there that weren't nearly as recognizable as he is from a name recognition standpoint. Mullen had them a frog hair away from winning the west. Had they beat Bama that year, who knows what else they could have done. Season kinda went off the rails at that point.

He also had multiple 5 stars and several 4 stars on his roster at that point. Member the kid that punched the woman on camera? Jeffery Simmons was a consensus 5 star. Mullen took them to 7 straight bowl games. Heck they were ranked #1 in the polls before the Bama game. That's the main reason he got the florduh job iyam.

It can be done if you are a good recruiter and game planner.
