my guess is that the total crowd was about 100,000, and that about 1/3rd of them were Bama fans. does anyone here know the actual breakdown?

something that i have never seen before is such a huge number of opposing fans sitting on the west side, sections S, T, U, and V. i thought that all of those seats were presold to the highest paying donors as season ticket packages, so how did bama fans come up with them? original purchasers unloading them to scalpers and then passed on to bammers, or something else?

My guess was about 25,000 Bama fans...close to the amount of empty seats for the last couple of home games + an amazing number of crimson red in the west lower bowl.

Between 1/4 and 1/5 minimum. A majority of the south upper deck was crimson. I was in Y6 so I had limited sight for the north side of the stadium.

It sure sounded like more. When they scored their 1st TD it was loud, at least on TV. I thought we were playing in their stadium.

One of the Bama players said it was like a home game for Bama with all the fans there...25,000 is a very legit estimate

I would say at least 1/4, if not a 1/3....lot of bammers up in the north end zone....

Your estimate of 100,000 attendance is about 6,000 off. The capacity is 103,000 and the attendance last night was 106,000. I dont know why you worry about Ut's attendance. It's fine.

Here in Alabama, long time season ticket holders were giving away their tickets......obviously to Bama fans because not many UT fans wanted to make the long drive to East Tennessee. BTW, most of their fans are nice respectful people, that we Tennessee grads work with and go to church with. They have a right to support a fine team this year.

I don't the thread was about whether or not Bama fans were good or bad, or whether they had a right to support their team. It had more to do with the fact that a home game vs Bama would reveal such a high level of apathy among the TN fans. Esp. when they are #2 and your biggest historical rival.

Many Vol fans travel hundreds of miles to Knoxville and they are not going to see a predicatable beatdown. This is not South Carolina.

We can argue about numbers all day. Bottom line here, there is no way you can dispute that UT is a program on the way down. Elite status on a National or SEC level are distant memories and are certain to remain this way under the current staff.

Not last night. I lost all respect I had, what little I already had, when they started a cheer when one of our players was down on the field with an injury. That really pissed me off.

They did that 2 years ago and the students started chanting F*** YOU BAMA!

No one cared enough to even bother with any retaliation, uncouth or otherwise, last night.

I disagree with any estimates giving Bama more than 20k there last night.

There wasn't 1 Bama fan for every 5 Vols fans on the streets.

...and for all the talk about the South end zone seats in the upper deck. That's such a miniscule part of the statium. Most of those are filled with Bama tickets in any year already.

Bama attendance: 17-20k in my opinion. I was expecting more and with all of the tickets on the street...they could have had more.

I agree that was the most classless act I've seen in a long time at a sporting event.

that's a good explanation for the west side. i've never seen it like that and hope i never see it like that again.

"talkin' sports" just commented on the "large number of crimson fans not looking good to the UT AD." but they didn't give a number defining "large."
