Obviously, this game is at home. The vols shouldn't lose a home game. Most good teams don't lose more than 2. Home wins always need to be taken with a grain of salt though because the home team has such a huge advantage.

If you didn't think our team could preform on the road then you must have missed the first game we played on the road against ohio state, I know we blew that game in the closing seconds but that says a lot about a young team to go into a tough environment and almost beat a top 5 team.

I understand completely. My real point is that individual wins in college basketball don't really mean to much by themselves. What really matters is the overrall body of work, winning championships, making final fours. These things prove that you could sustain the success and it isnt just because you were psyched up for a huge game and won it.

This has what to do with our ability to go far into the tournament next year?

Taking pride in moral victories is always dangerous. It was a loss and thats what really matters. I think it says something when you cite a loss as the best evidence that the Vols were good on the road. All that says to me is that they were so bad on the road that you had to pick a close loss as the best road moment.

Considering it was a team that won 22 straight games and made it to the national championship in a hostile environment with an incredibly talented team, I don't think it is too bad.

I'm not taking pride in moral victories, we deserve to lose that game anytime you choke on free throws at the end you deserve to lose, but that was one of our first road games of the year and we went into Columbus and competed hard and fell short at the end.

You're right, it is a new year. Anything can happen, but don't just look at last year and say that the Vols beat Florida so that proves they can go all the way.

No one ever said that, they were just saying that we had the ability to beat awesome teams without a dominant center.

I'm telling you, don't take too much pride in the losses. Pretty soon you start using the Notre Dame logic. Everyone saw Notre Dame lose to USC in the last seconds in football two years ago and that loss seemed to legitimize them for the National Media. Everyone always talked about how great it was to almost beat USC and that Notre Dame was back. Everyone now knows that Notre Dame wasn't even close to as good as that USC team, but they simply played their hearts out and got close.

Maybe because USC was one of the best teams in college history, but anyway I don't think anyone has said they take pride in losses.

And they shouldn't. There's no shame in losing to good teams. But my whole point is that when you are trying to say that the vols were decent on the road, don't go looking for "impressive" losses to convince people. Go find a good win, and if there isn't one, they maybe they just weren't good on the road.

So are you saying all of the games that Lofton missed were bad losses when we lost on the road and we started 2 or 3 Freshman in each game.

I'll answer your question with another question. Tell me why the Vols were a good road team? After you answer that I'll tell you why they weren't. We'll see which argument is stronger.

That's hard to answer once Lofton came back we lost one game to a bad South Carolina while beating Arkansas and Georgia when both were fighting for there lives to make it into the tournament. While Lofton was out we were blown out by Florida and Kentucky and we lost to Mississippi. The Ohio State and Vandy game was lost due to our inablilty to make a free throw and the Auburn game we blew a 15 point lead in the final 10 minutes. I know that's not a strong record, but in some of those games we just beat ourselves.

I'm not saying we're a good road team and I don't know were he got the impression that I was saying we were a good road team or we liked moral victories, but I don't it would be a fair assesment to say that we were a bad road team because Lofton was our for some of our conference road games. I would say that we played to the level of our competition on the road.

We got to the Sweet 16 on the road and were a couple of breaks from the Elite 8.

The Vols still lack a dominant center inside and a big athletic small forward.

I guess you missed the part about Tyler Smith being admitted yesterday. There's also a very good chance he'll receive the hardship waiver to play next season. And I also wouldn't write off Wayne Chism yet considering he put up 19 in Gainesville against Noah and Horford during his freshmen campaign. I know he isn't your traditional 5 offensively, but he has shown flashes of what he can accomplish during his brief stay in Knoxville. His post defense really improved towards the end of the year.
