Watched some of their highlights and State looks like a solid team.

I think they have some holes in their roster, but the QB can sling it and they play with pace like us. Our Defense will really be challenged.

I do think we have a very good opportunity against their defense. If we can execute at a similar level as we did against UGA, then we should outpace them, but I cannot shake the feeling it is going to be a shootout if our D gives up chunk throws.

Agree, it will be a dog fight for sure with the team and crowd all hyped up. Hope CNC post is right that we pull away in 2nd half. May have to watch with the sound turned low as those cow bells are very annoying. Have to avoid the habit of taking 2nd qtr off.

There's gonna be a thread just like this before the Kentucky game, too. And before the Vandy game. It happens every year. It happened before we beat NC State. a year or three ago. It happened before Syracuse, this year. The next opponent is always suddenly a concern, the week or two before the game. Well,, I'll tell you what:

WGWTFA.

Okay, okay, all road games in the SEC can be challenging. I acknowledge that. Nevertheless:

WGWTFA.

Go Vols!

It happens because every year we lose an away game to a team we should defeat without much problem.

Personally, on the topic of UK and Vandy, I do not feel the same way. Kentucky just plain sucks. Vandy has yet to face a real defense either, and we get them at home. Also, Pavia talking all that crap in the off season about how Vandy will run the state of Tennessee will get everybody fired up.

Didn't we have almost 200 yards rushing?
Those were hard fought yards for sure, but UGA only gave up one chunk play. Outside of that, it was hard running. All of our real damage was over the air, which is not a problem when you have a QB that can sling it, but as you saw at the end of the game, we could not lean on UGA to close it out like we wanted to.

I understand. They shut down our chunk rushing plays. But still, 200 yards suggests we ran the ball effectively against them.

I also think it is possible that Vandy gets kind of beaten up again by the time they play us. After this week, they really get into the meat of their schedule and it isn't easy (@Alabama, LSU, Mizzou, @Texas, Auburn, UK) and then the finale against us.

If Alabama doesn't pulverize them into the ground, in Tuscaloosa, there's something horribly wrong with that team.

I would agree with everything you're saying if 1) we were playing UK, regardless of location and 2) the game was in Neyland.

Lebby is very good offensive coach and you can bet he will have a scheme in place that takes advantages of our weaknesses. I think we win in the end but I don't believe this will be a blowout by any means.

Based on the season so far, we have an advantage in the run game.

Anybody have insight on how our WR stack up against their secondary?

I think our Oline is solid as a rock this year. So i believe Swaguilar will have time to throw.

I don't think they have a DB that will be able to stop Brazzell downfield consistently. Staley and Mathews will have opportunities as well. It will come down to if our OL plays a good game, but State's DL is not at the same level as UGA's. If Aguilar has enough time, then I think he can pick them apart.

I do think we need to run more though. I would like to see us get to a two score lead then start leaning on the run game more to close it out. Lebby will be ready with some game breakers on our depleted DBs, so I think we will want to shorten the game and keep the ball out of their hands for as much as our fast paced offense can.

State is still a defeatist program. Jump all over them and I am not sure they have the will to work back into it, especially if we can run it down their throats.

honestly the our defense is playing, I gotta wonder if the coaching staff is thinking about playing keep away at all by slowing tempo and running the football.
