Trooper was said to be in shock over Fulmer's comments. When Fulmer was asked about Troopers's evaluation of the talent, Fulmer said that Taylor might be getting a little ahead of himself.

If Fulmer wants to be the head coach and O.C. and the running back coach and qb coach way not fire everyone and run the whole team himself because what every any coach says he will do what he wants to do so fire everyone else and run the whole thing himself :censored: :censored: :furious3: :furious3:

I think the whole "starting RB job up for grabs" routine was a ploy from the start to get Houston to really commit to being the back he can be. I know nothing about his conditioning - he normally didn't get far enough past the line last year for me to tell, but he's had some strong games and with a freshman QB, his experience has to count for something. I really believe that Fulmer put the starting job up for grabs in hopes that Houston would be motivated and declare himself a starter by his play, and thats what it sounds like happened. CPF was simply using the newspaper and radio to motivate his guy... I heard the comment on Sportstalk yesterday from Fulmer where he chuckled and said that Trooper may have gotten ahead of himself naming Riggs the starter and didn't give it a second thought. Yes, Riggs and Larkins have looked good in practice and I would expect them both to get significant playing time, but, they have virtually zero game experience. When the lights come on for the nationally televised home opener, I think Fulmer wants some experience in the backfield with Schaeffer (or Ainge) - I bet (and hope) that Riggs plays his way into major time by the Florida game.

If it was a ploy then it failed miserably since Houston still doesn't look as good as Larkins or Riggs.

Larkins: 13 for 92 yds 7.08/carry

Riggs: 11 for 54 4.91/carry

Houston: 18 for 40 2.22/carry


Yep, looks like the best back there is starting.

This was not a ploy because Houston never stepped up he had four fumbles in the three scrimmages and why let your asst. coach run off at the mouth and agree with him in articles to the media and then say he jumpped the gun. Also Larkin and Riggs playing time was short because Woody only wanted to play Houston and Davis. Larkins has played tailback before in the Syr. game he has the talent and the vision but no chance. This is going to be the same crap this season just like last houston runs and gets nothing and throw the ball and put Davis in at the goal line. Low scores and no SEC champion for UT.

If Larkins has zero game experience then who was the RB in OT against Bama? I could have swore it was Larkins running the ball at a very crutical times.

I have no doubt that Houston will probably have a good game against UNLV. The past two seasons the games prior to Florida, Houston has rushed for 106 yds against Wyoming, 161 vs Fresno St, and 160 vs Marshall. Its the Florida game on Sept 18 that I'm worried about. Houston followed up those marvelous pre-SEC performances with 1 carry for 5 yards in 2002 and 12 carries for 25 yards last season.

In the past 2 seasons, Houston has played in 7 non-conf games and 14 SEC games. His breakdown of stats is like this...

In 7 non-conf games, he has rushed for 665 yds with a 7.0 avg per carry and also has 3 tds. That is an average of 95 yds per game.

In 14 SEC games, he has rushed for 800 yds with a 4.2 avg per carry and also has 5 tds. That is an average of 57 yds per game.

His avg carries per game is about the same for both, 13.7 for SEC and 13.6 for non-conf.

He has 7 games where he topped 100 yards. The first two games of last season and 5 the season before.
