Starting QB Faizon Brandon (Fr)

First thing is make sure Michigan doesn’t swoop in and offer him 10M the day before signing day.
Then, how much weight does he need to gain, and then - how fast does his brain work? Is he Eric Ainge as a freshman ? Or Nico ?
That’s the real deal - how fast he can read an SEC coverage disguise ….
Ainge in 04 was protected by a monster oline

I think this is bad for Faizon. If Joey had returned, he’d be on an even plane competing with GMac next year. As it stands, GMac now has a year in the system now and will have a year of starting experience (likely) next year. Unless GMac gets hurt.
I think by the start of the season Faizon will be ahead of GMac.

In fairness Nico is extremely talented and he did lead the team to the playoffs in his first year starting. An argument can be made that had he stayed with CJH as a 3 year starter, he might be developing towards a top draft pick next year.
The defense led the team to the playoffs, not Nico. We went to the playoffs in spite on Nico playing below average. But yes he is talented and I have no doubt he would have gotten better had he stayed.

Offensively this has been a pretty exciting year. Nico in 2024 added a nice run element. Okay pass element.
Joey in 2025 has been those in reverse. 3,000 yards and almost 30 TDs with two more games to play.

If Faizon is the best option, he will have
Veteran Oline.
Veteran WRs
Veteran RBs
Year 4 Ethan Davis and year 2 of the Dorsealer and Brame.

And I said he was good enough a HS junior to be the starting QB at Tennessee.
Hype. All Hype for the moment.

But what about defense? Some nice pieces, but they really need the portal at DT and safety IMO.

* Been watching Faizon for 2 years now. He controls the flow of the game. Yes he can pass for 350 and 4 TDs. Or he can pass for 200 1 TD and rush for 100 yards and 3 TDs on the ground while controlling the clock and the tempo of the game. He has this maturity right now.

We can go to the playoffs with him being-a true freshman as our starting QB.
He’s too good.
Nobody knows who will start and how long he will be the starter. It likely will not be until mid August who will be the starter. The starter will be who Heupel thinks will give us the best chance to win

Hell no!

I was getting burned because I was one of the FIRST to criticize him. I said he could only throw at one speed before he even stepped foot on campus. People were jumping all over me for it.

Same things with Cam Seldon and me questioning his low productivity. AND here we are 3 1/2 years later.

I also said Marcel Reed was legit

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been right, but all people want to do is make up CRAP like this that didn’t even happen. I NEVER THOUGHT JG was going to be any good.
Maybe they just remember your Mauer 4 starter campaign and all of your hot takes about Hooker?

U of M ran with the #1 QB recruit this year as a Freshman... made some plays but was inconsistent. Likely what we would expect with Brandon. Probably similar type QB production of Nico's year as starter.

He’s too good.
Dorsealar will be playing versus us if we were to meet Oklahoma Sooners in next couple years, He's gone.

If you start Brandon and he fails, you’re fired from being a Vol. Good luck, Mr. “Big Idea”.

GMac definitely has the upper hand in the race bc he’s been here, he knows more of the playbook, I’m sure at some level the game has slowed down for him going against SEC level defensive players and he’s had time to build a rapport with the WRs, as we saw those guys working out together in Miami this offseason. Other posters on here, who are close to the program have said that he performed very well in fall camp last season and wasn’t really that far away from be a contender for the starting job. Obviously, physically he needs to get stronger, but I think people are really overthinking that. Hes gonna be a good QB for us.

This year we will rely heavy on the running game and a better Defense. Gmac may be the starter but I bet we see Brandon often.

I don't know the anyone who post here really knows how strong Gmac is. Strength is not measure by bulk. In fact, bulk at skilled positions is not really recommended. He is strong enough to do what is required for a Quarterback in the Sec. I don't worry that he is not 225 pounds. He may end up at that weight someday, but I doubt it.

I’m pulling hard for GMac to make folks eat their words. It would be awesome for the Vols to be led by a QB that grew up a Vol fan instead of someone that’s just looking for the most NIL money.

I think it’s always good for a player to be a fan, but I don’t know FB is just a guy out for a check either.

I agree, he does need some bulk to be durable . Tyler Bray was definitely a skinny guy when he arrived and he was a very good QB who could make all the throws.

This issue is Josh's offense is built around the QB being ready and able to run a bit and create plays with his legs. Like we saw with Hooker, having a QB ready, willing, and able to take off and take a few hits is what Josh needs for the offense to run on all cylinders.

I think G-Mac is willing, should be ready...... but able to take the hits in the SEC? I know, I know, get down, slide but this ain't ballet, somebody is going to nail him now and then.

G-Mac is a good runner. and he can throw while scrambling Way too much concern about his physical condition. If he or anyone else is not in good physical condition, then all they should be concerned.

I don’t think that about FB at this moment either (that could change in a few years) but a large percentage of players are looking for the extra $$$. Nico, every top portal QB this last cycle, etc….it’s about the $$$ now for so many of them. We should stop calling them players and call them hired mercenaries. LOL

I think G-Mac is in good physical condition but so is my granddaughter but I'm thinking she gets one good push from an SEC DB and several months of physical therapy. But she is fit.

Those pics of G-Mac in Miami with the receivers show some bird legs compared with his peers beside him. Granted, he won't take the hits nor need as much speed as those guys but I'd like to see a little more quads and calves on the young man.

There is considerable in the male-female physical construction. There may be a few females who could compete and occasionally maybe, even play against men and win in some sport. If I recall correctly, Billy Jean King , in her prime, defeated an elderly man in a tennis game challenge. Soccer is another sport where women can together, but I am not aware than an adult women’s team has played a men’s team, much less beat them. Football is such a physically demanding, I can not even imagine a female football would ever attempt to compete against a male football. Therefore, I doubt your granddaughter would jeopardize her health attempting to play Quarterback against a a college football team. She may be fit Enough to play in a six year old football because females tend to mature more quickly. Of course, you have forgotten to post your blog in blue font.
