Not sure what the stats are, but i think 30 percent or less of a recruiting class ends up as starters.

Opportunity is a huge factor. Cam Sutton came here when we desperately needed a CB. Struck out on Ramsey and McKenzie. What if Justin Martin and Tyler Byrd had been in that class and signed with us ???

How is super recruit Todd Kelly just now full-time starter? Hows McDowell still a back up?

Opportunity is crucial. Timing is a huge aspect of opportunity.

Now, i believe that in our unfinished 2017 class, that we already have 7 SEC caliber starters.

Maliek Gray
- tailor made for that star position.

Theo Jackson
- Very similar to another Jackson we had at safety that could erase bad plays

Breyon Gaddy
- Big DT with a ton of upside

Locklear
- As athletic an OL weve recruited in a while. This kid is a prototype.

Labruzza
- He looks like another Cam Sutton.

Bumphus
- We are starting a trend with monsterous DEs , Bumphus fits that mold.

Murphy
- Has an opportunity to be another Lucas Taylor/ Cedric Wilson type WR. Except hes more explosive.

The rest of class has some potential as well

Crosby
Henderson
Cottman
Are all guys that will contribute.

So before we try and judge one recruiting class, think about how many of them would actually make an impact.

Even our 2014 super class. Look at them...
Then look at our less talented 2013 class...

This explains the "sales pitch" that brought both of Butch Jones first two (full time) huge legacy classes.

Out of that list, I'd go ahead and say Jackson, Bumphus, and Locklear will RS. We have enough depth at those positions already to burn their redshirts.

Agreed and Henderson

Gray and Murphy will play as freshman. So will Gaddy.

If you get 50% of each class to be productive and actually on the 2 deep at some point of their career you are doing well

Yep.

Look how many starters and contributors came from the less heralded 2013 class.

2014 class while much more talented contributed about the same.

It really isn't an exact science. With that said- logically you should get as much talent as possible regardless.

What im trying to point out here is that opportunity varies from class to class. And its not the emd of the world if we don't get a top 5 class this year. A top 15 class with solid players can keep our program goiny in the right direction...
