They had a pretty solid slate of actors actually. Except for maybe the kid that played Anakin. The director didn't get the best out of them.

Actors weren't the problem, other than Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christiansen. But even with Christiansen I don't think he was a bad actor, just had crap to work with.

Honestly, you have to try really hard to make Liam Neeson, Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor, and Samuel L. Jackson all look like bad actors. All of those are Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy winners and nominees. Yet the terrible writing and dialogue did just that.

I would have made Anakin about 12-13 and probably act a bit mature for his age. No Jar Jar Binks, or in fact any Gungans. I don't mind if they had a separate alien race on Naboo but there was no need to make them all funny talking annoyances.

More action, less C-SPAN.

Most definitely Lucas should have used more actual sets than so much CGI. Phantom Menace was actually ok in that sense because it did have a lot of actual set work, but Attack and Revenge both were all almost 100% CGI sets and you could really, really tell. Just a really bad decision.
