I was getting ready to post on this thread, but I decided to read through it first. You have captured the essence of Stanford's players versus Tennessee's to a T. No need for my 2 cents, other than to agree with your excellent critique.Something that seems to be overlooked in this discussion is Stanford recruits intelligent players.
Stanford is considered the Ivy league school of the west coast with stringent admission standards. Even though their academic work load is much more challenging than the majority of athletes attempt at UT, Stanford's football graduation rate is 93% vs 64% at UT.
Stanford's players consistently play their positions as coached. They don't jump offsides 6 times in a game. They stay in their gaps on Defense. The receivers run the correct routes. IMHO, their players are not as athletically gifted as UT's current players, but they completely understand how they are being coached to play and they execute in that manner.
I also recall an interview with David Shaw on "The Heard" and he discussed the single dicipline problem (one under age drinking incident) he's had during his tenure. They recruit total quality in their players.
I'm glad to see players like Dobbs who are well documented as being intelectually stout. Maybe UT would do well to quit recruiting players who are marginal students as unless they are elite special players like a CP then their minds may offset the benefits offered by their bodies?
In essence, they have smarter and more disciplined players, who aren't constantly confused and out of position.
