The new HC should pick his staff. I think one of the problems with the offense this season is lack of chemistry among the coaches. Fulmer kept Adkins who turned out to be a bust, hired Drayton and the TE coach without Clawson's input and only allowed the new OC to bring in one person to his staff who new anything about his offense and how to teach and coach it. Add to that Fulmer's micro management and having to radically modify Clawson's scheme to fit a hugely limited QB and you have the perfect storm...tough break for what otherwise appears to be a very classy and capable coach.

Regarding flipping the o-line, Atlanta was doing it a bunch against New Orleans with very good results. The tackles were flipping sides and they ran unbalanced lines.

Adkins has been on the decline since he to over the O-Line here at UT. All anyone has to do is go look up our rushing stats over the past few years and you will see.

The only misleading part about Adkins is the big numbers that Foster put up last year and the low sack total. Everyone pointed to Adkins as the reason, but now we know that it was Cutcliff's clever scheming and Erik's underated play that produced those results last year. Adkins appears to be a lousy o-line coach and shame on a former good o-line coach for not recognizing that and taking appropriate action.

Hopefully, the new head coach cleans house of all these coaches, who can't even beat lowly wyoming! Bring in new talent.

How many yards rushing did Tennessee have against UF in 2006 or 2007?

Foster had almost 1200 yds last year rushing. It dam sure wasn't because of Kurt Roper. It was because we had an effective passing game. UF just has better coaching and better talent than UT does. Plain and simple. Plus Cutcliffe said that against UF he went away from the run to soon.

we all know drayton wont be back next year. so i suppose he should be telling these kids that hes gonna be there coach next year. how does he answer giles asking him where he fits in the rotation. is he gonna lie to him and say your our third down back from day 1 or does he say i really dont know. i really dont see what drayton has done to get this much fire thrown on him. i guess everybody is so upset with this season that they cant see straight.

He tells Giles the truth...that with a new coaching staff comes the opportunity to play early and often because a new staff will have no loyalties to any current players. They will want to win, and win now, which means putting the best players on the field regardless of how long they have been at UT. And he tells him that any incoming coach is sure to welcome one of the top all purpose backs in the nation out of high school, and that any offense that is run at UT is going to require a RB, because we have yet to see an offense that doesnt use one.

I dont blame Giles one bit for looking at his options, but Drayton made it sound as if he needed to jump ship now when the truth is that Giles could have wait a few weeks to decide. He could have even scheduled a few more visits to other schools as a backup plan just in case he decided he wasnt comfortable with the situation after waiting a little longer. As it stands, if he waited, he could have 1. stayed commited 2. still visited a few more schools just in case 3. avoided any undo attention or criticism by decommiting, or by decommitting and then recommitting if he likes the new hire.

But the way Drayton advised him, he can only do option 2. And what if the new coach decides he wants to keep Drayton? Then Drayton told him to go to option B for no reason. Is he then going to try to re-recruit Giles? Giles obviously liked Drayton and wanted to end up at the same school as him, but if Drayton is retained for some reason, Giles then has to possibly decommit, AGAIN, to end up where he wanted to be in the first place.

Drayton was not looking out for the best interests of this kid.

i can understand why Giles wanted to look around. He'll be enrolling during the winter so he only has a few weeks before he enrolls, we're talking about the next 4 years of his life here.

This is a great post! If Drayton is unemployed, which he seems hellbent on becoming, will Giles simply forego college?

Come to the Hill, Jarvis! The opportunity is ideal.

We're not hiring Mike Leach, so quit worrying about that kind of offense showing up next fall and robbing you and other superstar players of your best shot at the NFL.

UT will play football and not join a circus act.
