no doubt. the new song out now "the day that never comes" is decent, but st. anger was terrible. this album is make or break for them imo.

After listening to the album quite a bit I'd say it's a general improvement from St.Anger, but I wouldn't listen to it on a regular basis.

They should have quit post Black Album.

Their music died with Cliff Burton in 1986.

AJFA and Black were total musical wankery, and when it comes to that type of stuff, there's much better out there.

And Lars Ulrich is a strong contender for the most self-important douche in the music industry. Trust me, that's a loaded field.

heard "the day that never comes" start on Sirius 20 (Octane) flipped over to First Wave, listened to a song, then a few comedy acts on Blue Collar, came back what seemed like 8 minutes later and that song was still playing.

someone should have told Metallica that 10 minute songs died sometime in the 90's.

The Day That Never Comes is the only good song on this album... and it's over 8 minutes long. I like some parts of "All Nightmare Long," also.

I was actually pleasantly surprised. After the last few forgettable efforts, DM captures a little of the old-school Metallica feel, albeit mixed with a more "modern"-sounding Hetfield and less-impressive guitar soloing.

And, Milo, you think Justice is "wankery???"

Not saying that musical wankery is a bad thing. Hell, I listen to Dragonforce and Dream Theater.

I know a lot of people disagree with me, that's just the way I've always perceived AJFA. I generally dislike 'Tallica after Master of Puppets.

This album is badass. They definitely go old school on Death Magnetic. This is basically the album we've wished for ever since the Black album!

Wow, I totally disagree with most of you. DM is freakin' awesome. It makes up for everything from The Black Album through St. Anger. Not that I hated all that....well St. Anger pretty much, but DM sounds like the album that should have come out after Justice.

DM has some pretty awesome songs. "The Day That Never Comes" freakin rocks, it has a great "One" vide to it; so does "All Nightmare Long", "Broken Beat & Scarred", "That Was Just Your Life", and "Cyanide". The weakest songs are "Unforgiven 3" (yeah they went there) and "Judas Kiss" but even both of those I pretty much like. Heck they even put an instrumental on there, which also freakin rocks, "Suicide and Redemption".

I mean everyone has their opinion, but to me it's up there with Justice, which is my favorite Metallica album. And while I'm a Metallica fan, I'm not a homer fan that automatically loves everything they put out. The Black Album is way overrated, Load is ehhh..., and ReLoad I actually liked a bit better than Load.
