"I think Butch Jones is going to call him up & ask him to work with his QBs. Well, he should I don't know he will"

"Everyone in the South knows he should have won the Heisman Trophy"

I watched PF just long enough to hear what he had to say and turned it.

I have a new found respect for Spurrier.

With that said, I will always hate the arrogant "Old Ball Sack"! :neener2:

Everyone in the south? Meaning the only people who thought he should have won are SEC fans? Everyone else in the country knew better?

That is how the Heisman vote broke down by region. Woodson won every region but the south. I just think Steve was speaking in matter of fact terms.

The fact some of you develop any sort of feelings because someone said something questionable about our quarterback from 20 years ago is delicious.

Welcome to VN.

Spurrier played a big role in PM not winning the Heisman. Both PM's junior and senior years, the UT-fla. game was a big national game--lots of hype, lots of media attention--and, correct me if wrong, florida thumped us both games, and I don't think PM was especially good in the game his senior year. The media turned on him after that senior year loss. Had we won that game, he'd almost certainly have won the Heisman, but we didn't as Spurrier was too much for Fulmer most years, especially his first several in the SEC. I felt terrible for PM--and UT--because I'm quite sure that one big reason why PM stayed for his senior season was that he wanted to win the Heisman. I don't have any doubt about that.

The only person who hates Tennessee more than Spurrier is Arian Foster

I personally think it's Spurrier's take on the Magna Carta and the early 1800's philosophical movement known as transcendentalism spearheaded by the likes of none other than Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Of course I could be reaching.

I actually was thinking he was commenting on the virtues of free market capitalism and its impact on non-inherited wealth accumulation during the industrial revolution and how it gave birth to trickle down wealth distribution from corporate entities to individuals across the class spectrum.

But that's just me.

I've always had a bit of a problem with the statement "Peyton couldn't beat Florida". There are 11 on offense and 11 on defense. Manning stood on the sidelines while Florida lit up our defense. It's not ALL him.

Also, I think the fact, politically, that Danny Weurful (an SEC QB) won the award the previous year steered some voters towards Woodson. Two in a row would have been hard for some voters to swallow.

Jason Whitlock even said so on " Sports Reporters" back in 98. What's interesting is that the voters wouldn't vote for 2 white QBs from the SEC but how many USC players won it in a short time span?

Regarding the "he never beat UF" stuff...it comes with the territory. He also beat Bama 3 times.

voting for PM had the Vols beaten florida. When we got handled on national tv for the second year in a row, there was a backlash against PM--the voters went looking for an alternative. I hated the vote and the fact that PM didn't win it--but it has to be said that Woodson more than justified winning it with his great NFL career as a DB.
