Steve Spurrier was in attendance last night when the Vols came back from 13 down inside 5 minutes to beat Indiana last night.

The last time the Vols did that Steve Spurrier was also in attendence. In 2014, Tennessee, led by Josh Dobbs came back from 14 down inside 5 minutes to beat South Carolina in overtime. Steve Spurrier was coaching South Carolina that night!

I respect Spurrier as a rival combatant....as well as his aggressive style of offense when he was a coach...but man that guy is a d!ck. When he was introduced at last night's game he was booed heartily...and responded by doing the Gator chomp. The Johnson Tennessee native has always held a grudge for not heavily recruiting him. We lost more than we won vs Spurrier...but some of our wins were very sweet. Like his last game as coach of the Gators..at home at the Swamp. I think we won 34-31 or something? What a great night that was. Then we beat him at South Carolina as well. Overall he got the best of us....but we didn't lay down and be total patsies vs his teams either.

Love him or hate him, CSS was good for college football. I still would like to know the rest of the story about him leaving SC mid season. I always figured his smart mouth got him crossways with the big rooster booster.
I am convinced he knew he was gonna get his azz handed to him by us later that season and that fact played large in his decision to just quit before it DID happen. I respect him...but i thought that was a cowardly move by him and a smear on an otherwise stellar college coaching career.

He lost his mojo and did not want to tarnish his legacy. What he did at SCAR was highly impressive.

I’m not sure he stuck around for the game. The boos were coming down pretty heavy when he was recognized pre game. He even gave the gator chomp to the crowd. Ever the troll.

We love to boo him and he loves it. I'm sure he got a bigger kick out of doing the gator chomp when we boo'd him than he did for being honored at the game!

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. But wasn't Little Steve a 0 four against Butch ? If I'm right that one had to hurt.

The guy was ahead of his time in the 90's and spanked pretty much everyone. However, I did not have any respect for him because of his penchant for bad-mouthing people publicly, and specifically Philip Fulmer about his weight publicly. He just couldn't turn down the opportunity to get in a cheap shot verbally.

When he played HS football at Science Hill in Johnson City, UT was still in the single wing. I think it was mutual, we didn't recruit him and he didn't want us (thank goodness). Gotta admit though, he raised the level of competition when he arrived at FL. CPF had to play a better offense to compete, Shuler then Manning...

But, then the gator hate started. Just think, if he came here, everybody woud hate us iso FL. I can't think of any fanbase that likes FL

Steve Spurrier is the only SEC coach that posted an 0-3 record against Butch Jones

I'll never forget one of his interview digs.... "Going up to Ole Rocky Top - see what the Mighty Vols have." Drove Fulmer crazy, and they were friends.

They probably didn't show it on TV last night but they were introducing legends of the game last night and Spurrier got by far the loudest reaction of the night, virtually all of them boos. Naturally he gave his typical smirk and after a few seconds did the Gator Chomp. I thought it was amusing because he was playing it up as were the fans.
