the first list is probably more accurate than even the current point standings.

I thought the same thing, but I am a little surprised how high Dale,Jr. is, specially in quality passes, unless they count passing behind too.

It could just mean that you're behind a bunch of cars a lot of the time... which I wouldn't think to be the case for someone like Johnson, but you know. It'd also be better to see it with Daytona & Talladega thrown out, since anyone can make a pass at pretty much anytime on those tracks.

I haven't seen the official definition of a "quality pass", but would assume it is a pass for position, not passing a lapped car, nor gaining positions due to wrecks or mechanical failure. It would favor someone who doesn't qualify well, but is decent on race day.
