Not speaking for smokey0265, but I agree with his sentiment and I'm here to get updates on the progress of my team and try to mold that information into some form of optimism for the future.
I'm also trying hard to ignore all of the stale coach-bashing posts aimed at a bunch of guys who, as far as I can tell, tried their best and failed and who are no longer working at UT. And I'm trying to skip over all of the silly speculative conclusions about how much better this coaching staff is than those guys were. As if any of us can possibly know that sitting here today.
The coaches we had the last few seasons were all experienced guys with good resumes who looked like promising hires when they came on board, too. Hell, some of them were arguably more promising than anyone we have on staff today.
Remember how stoked we all were to get Shoop? He was seen as a can't-miss hire by pretty much everyone in cfb. Remember how great we thought Warren would be for our defensive backfield when we got him from UNC? How about "The Rock" as S&C coach? Remember how the players raved about how much better he was making them? Butch was pretty much universally praised for going out and getting the best. He was looking like a genius after hiring Debord, who we all thought was a terrible hire at the time.
And here we are again getting excited about a coaching staff that is 0-0 at Tennessee. And bashing the old staff, who pretty much everyone loved before we saw the results on the field. So maybe we should just enjoy the updates and discuss our hopes for the future and stop trying to pretend we as a fan base know anything about coaching.
This is not directed at you. Just something I think a lot of us see, but many don't for some reason.
