I am not advocating a conspiracy - but in light of some other questionable calls - it seemed all night that the refs seemed to spot the ball back a yard or so when
we had it and there was never any measurements for a first down. Was that a just a lazy, constantly out of place crew?

On our last series where we were driving and turned it over on downs - we completed a short pass to Jones on a third down slant for what appeared to be a first down. I was on the
other side of the field but that appeared to be close to a first down. Does anyone have a screen shot of how far we advanced. It seems that we had another botched fourth down attempt where
it looked like we picked up the first on third down.

At any rate, can you ever remember another game where there were no measurements for first downs? Just spit-balling here but it seems odd or did I miss the chain gang going out and measuring
a bunch of times.

It was definitely short, but they missed the spot by almost a full yard on that one. Should’ve been 4th and inches instead of 4th and 1.

They were definitely doing this spotting short for UT a lot and were spotting forward a lot for Purdue . It was obvious. I dont understand how these Refs never get looked into.

Ah, vindication! I thought on several occasions the refs spotted the ball farther back than the ball carriers forward progress. It seemed that they were spotting the ball where the knee or elbow made contact with the ground, not where the ball was.

I was able only to listen to the game, but there were several times when Pat Ryan thought we made or almost made the first down marker only to have the ball placed a yard or two short.

I was on the 50 yard line Purdue side, and watched the game with binoculars, the spots were consistently spotted short for UT. Sometimes over a yard, in fact one time the ref moved the ball several times back and forth before he finally decided where to leave it. On one holding call, Umpire called the penalty from a good 30 + yards downfield. He threw his flag about 20 yards, then picks it up and throws it another 10 and UT was penalized 10 yards from the second landing spot of the flag. There wasn't a winner of this game because the refs robbed the players of deciding it on the field.
