Sports Card Collectors!

I have several duplicate Onit NIL Tennessee cards for 2023-2025 baseball and football, if anyone needs cards to complete their set.

I need some advice fellas.
I came across a beat to hell, ‘68 Ryan/Koosman today and the guy wants $120 for it.
I could probably get it for $100.
I didn’t see any creases, no paper loss, but the corners are very rounded!
I don’t collect for value and have never spent that much on a card for myself.
Would you guys pull the trigger just to own a Nolan Ryan rookie?
I will probably never own a better example.

buy it and get it graded it will go up in value a bit more than what you pay, you will get your moneys worth that way

I’m thinking if anything it’s a 1 maybe just authentic.
I told the guy I’d think on it tonight.
He also had a ‘64 Topps Giant Hank Aaron that was VERY sharp.
He only wanted $25 for it.
I think I’m going to ask if he’ll do $120 for both.

I’m not a fan of grading so that would probably never happen.
Not really worried about value.
I guess I’m just really wanting you guys to tell me to buy it, so I can justify doing so.

There are many thing that you have to answer for yourself.
Do you have $100-$120 of disposable income. Or that the wife won't choke you in your sleep.
Nolan Ryan's cards will only increase in value. I can't see him ever doing anything to tarnish his reputation.
There are enough Nolan Ryan fans that his rookie card will hold it's value and some.
Personally, I have spent that much on a Peyton Manning & Reggie White autographed mini helmets. And close to that for a Reggie White rookie card.
I have been surprised at how much some of my cards have increased in value in 25 years. Some were worth $0.50 are now $25-$35. I have some that are four figures.
If you really want it, pull the trigger. You can always tell your wife here's a Christmas gift that you bought me as a back up.

I have a little card fund stashed away and I never spend more than my budget.
Typically I would get 2,3 maybe 4(what I consider)nice cards for $100.
I think I’m going to get it!

I just feel incredibly guilty spending $100 on a single baseball card.
My boy collects too and I’m thinking I could get him a pretty sweet card for that price.
Even though his collection is far better than mine.
He has Acuna, Freeman, Verlander, Miggy autos and stuff like that...
Do you guys ever feel this way?

When I first started collecting, I collected football cards. I over did it at times. I used to try to collect complete sets and would keep all the inserts and special cards separately. I got to be too much.
I changed to only collect Tennessee players in all sports. My son just started getting interested in cards. I coached him to narrow his focus and get what you like within reason. Use the cards you don't want to sell and fund the hobby.
I just sold a bunch to guys at work and got a little over $600. I have thousands of football cards that I would love to find a buyer.
I have a Michael Jordan collection with set of jumbo cards, and retirement sets that Sports Card Collection says is worth upwards of $2K. I knew that one day it would bring some $ but not that much.
Someone on here said they collected baseball players with 500 homeruns. There's less than 30 player. But that's a great example of a unique collection that keeps you interested going on the hunt. Lazy collectors will pay big bucks in the future for such a collection.

I collected hard until we had kids. When money got tight I stopped for a long time. Kids came first for me. My kids are 23 & 26 now. I pulled out my cards for the first time in many years and I'm blown away with what some of them are worth.
Guys at work keep buying things from me, but they're in the same boat. I keep telling them, that I'll hold sets for them when they save the money.
It's a fun hobby. My wife used to complain unless I was buying Packer stuff (she's a cheese head from Wisconsin) Michael Jordan or Peyton Manning. Now that I have stuff with lots of dollar signs she has changed her tune.
Long story short. Don't spend your threshold every paycheck. Enjoy the hobby and focus on what you really like. It's okay to reward yourself once in a while. In the long run, it will end up going to your son anyway.

I honestly don’t, and you’re right, counterfeiting is huge in the sportscard game right now.
I’m about 99% sure it is real.
The color, the paper, everything looks right about it.
I don’t even know if the $60 Willie Mays I bought is authentic, it’s just a chance you take I suppose.
