It's official: UT Director of Football Operations Chris Spognardi, on administrative leave since August, now gone.

Athletic director Dave Hart sent a letter informing Spognardi that he was being fired for “gross misconduct” and that “this decision is based on information learned by the University’s Office of Audit and Compliance.” The letter was obtained Tuesday through a public records request.

Yeah, basically just made it official - about 15 minutes ago.

UT has been paying his salary all this time. Not to mention the missing funds. He got off easy.

Cash based system??? Could it be he was a fall guy and not necessarily criminal? Surely if they had proof he had stolen money charges would have been filed.

UT policy makes the teams pay for everything in cash because employees can't have UT credit cards thanks to a former president that mishandled funds.

What exactly did this guy do? Was he basically the team's travel agent?

A title like "Director of Football Operations" for a college team sounds like one of those jobs that sounds important but does nothing.

Anybody have the skinny on what he supposedly actually did? Some of you guys are in the business world. So enlighten us on the probabilities.
