Speed Has No Slump -- UT Going for Oregon East?

Its also alot easier to take shortcuts, the road more travelled, etc. not saying we have that mind set but id like to see players that want the contact, rather than try and dodge it. speed doesnt put fear in people, and if they can stop your scheme to run around them you got nothing left.

not a big fan of this guy, but one name comes to mind .... Deion Sanders. He never made good contact & he did well.

How's Smash Mouth working out for Florida's offense?

Butch is already moving to the Oregon-style offense, with his goal of 15-seconds between plays. Until we have Alabama's talent, wearing out the D (particularly Florida's) with a fast-tempo offense is the best way for us to steal a few upsets.

And next year, our OLine is gone. Zone blocking is much easier for a young OLine.

They were 11-2 last yr. might go 9-3 or 8-4 with a bowl at worst this yr. I'll sure as hell take 9-3 to 11-2 playing some smash mouth ball.

JMO but... The SEC is the dominant Conf. for 1 simple reason. We have more speed on Defense. We take RBs and make them into LBs. The talent in the south allows for this, other Teams/Confs must put the "fast" guys on O ! The SEC is built on Defense and Nicky Saban laughs a little inside every time an SEC Team starts talking scheme instead of Talent.

Do you remember that receiver by the last name of Scott, who played in the early 2000's? He had lightning speed, but could NOT catch the ball. He could get open and looked good running down the field but that was it.

He made it to camp with the Steelers but didn't make the roster. He ended up in the Olympic trials a few years later.

What good did that speed do us?

Do you remember the JUCO receiver that was real fast? He played in the same time period. His junior season, he didn't even make it on the field. His senior season, he caught one pass for a T.D.

Leonard Scott. He could get open. He couldn't catch it.

Oregon is fast but not as fast as that tempo makes them look. This class is really focused on the right spots for us(defense and athleticism). We upgraded enormously in those areas. Add that to the young class from last year and I'm fine with the rebuilding job so far.

New Vol Commit Emmanuel Moseley: 4.36.

Chris Rainey: 4.36

Eagles' DeSean Jackson: 4.35.

Oregon's DeAnthony Thomas: 4.34.

CP's was 4.33.

Who else do we have coming in with sub-4.4 speed?

It's a lot easier to run around folks than through 'em.

Vic runs 4.41
Gaulden is faster than Vic
Evan Berry, who will be a Vol, runs 4.34
Hurd 4.37
Lauderdale 4.45
Not sure about Cortez, TKJr, Payne, etc

Adding Malone and, somehow, Adoree Jackson would help team speed as well. Now we know why they signed Moseley after seeing Oregon today. Speed kills.

He was also a track guy trying to play football. This is football players who happen to have track speed. I think today has showed that speed can cure a lot of problems in a hurry.

You have to have speed to compete against the best of the best even Alabama who may be considered a smash-mouth kind of team but they also have guys who can run really fast.

Their is a kid right down the road that goes to Knoxville Fulton that is about the same size a De"Anthony Thomas that was clocked @ 4.33. He is an All State running back. He is scary fast and has the moves to go with it. Google Darryl Rollins Davis an see for yourself. Tennessee has not offered. Not sure what Jones is waiting for!
