With Eric Russels track record hopefully our special teams (which it has been anything but special the past 10 years or so) can win us some games.

Stats speak for themselves (although all were against non SEC caliber teams)
-14 blocked punts for North Texas (7 in one season)
-At Louisiana Tech during his first tour of duty with new Tennessee coach Derek Dooley, the Bulldogs were the top-ranked team in the nation in four different special teams categories and scored five times in that phase in 2008.

Having a coach emphasize special teams play will win us a few games and bring a fire back to this team. Our special teams have been as lacking to the say the least.

Palardy + Darr = AWESOMENESS. Our field position should be alot better this year.

That will be the real difference. If that duo is as good as advertised, our kicking specialists will be one of the most improved units in the nation from 2009 to 2010.

Coffin kick punts, extra hangtime on punts, kickoffs through the endzone when needed, blocking opponents punts and fewer returned kickoffs and punts.

I look for our kicking game to help TN vs what it has done the last couple of years.

I think CER is going to get our special teams up to par and performing the way they should. The field position is going to help our team immensely this year. Hopefully it will give our offense some short fields to work with. What I am really hoping for, is that we can get to the point where our special teams are putting points on the board for us. A punt return to the house or a blocked punt with a scoop and score. Something that will spark this team and take some pressure off the offense to have to score consistently. It is absolutely embarrassing that we cant remember the last time we had a kick off or punt return for a touchdown.

well hell im not going to make this kind of statement bc we still dont know what the hell kind of team we are feilding. our secondary has takin a huge hit and DLINE... which already was crappy... not to mention that we have no clue who get kicked off next...

If we can find a real "playmaker" at punt returner, don't be surprised if "special teams" is our strongest unit period.

With our unproven Offense and weakened Defense, we better hope that Special Teams steps up and makes the plays we need to win ball games this year. And I think they can.

I have a feeling Oku is going to have a break-out year in returns. A few TDs would be very nice.

As much as I'd like to see Janzen return kicks and punts hes our best player on defense. With the safety position as thin as it is now, I expect him to just return punts.

Is there any stats out there that say which one is more dangerous between kick-off and punt return?

Your Statement might be better suited in a tread called defense is thin not one that is focused on special teams????

Yeah, and maybe Justin Hunter if he's as fast as he's rumored to be.

I don't know much about it, but would Hunter's height be a drawback for a kick returner?

I don't see how height is that big of a factor. Shorter guys can typically get to top-speed faster than long legged guys( see Brandon James). If Hunter gets his long legs churning, BYE BYE!!!

I will settle for a guy who can just catch the ball cleanly.

Yeah, nothing made me madder than when Nuke would drop the ball last year.

I fully expect to see either Meline, Oku, Jackson, or maybe even Rogers to take the return responsibilities. This year, field position has got to be on our side.

I'm just excited about Palardy and Darr. I can't wait to see them boot some deep ones.

I have always respected Urban Meyer for his focus on special teams. Florida has boasted one of the best special teams in the country since he got there and they have provided them the edge on the field numerous times.

Is it safe to say that Lincoln and Cunningham are out the door and the freshmen will be giving the reigns this season?
