In Tennessee's last 5 games against ranked opponents, they have given up 3 punt returns for a TD and one kickoff return for a TD.

That's about the worst stat I've heard in a long time, and is an absolute direct hit indictment of coaching.

your special teams have been horrible no question. florida had way too good field position after every kickoff.

The fact that fulmer never hired anyone to coach special teams, says he never felt threatened by the 5-6 year. All that hot air hamilton was blowing was just that.He should be fired on this stubborness alone. It has cost us dearly over the last three years.Florida said they found a weakness by studying film.Humm i wonder if they can see it you know everyone else does. This is just sad.

not trying to pile on here. . . but i don't understand why you don't have a special teams coach. special teams are the difference between a 8 and 10 win team many times.

(not so) Funny thing, before the game I was talking with a buddy and commented that we would probably give up a punt return for a TD and give them average starting field position of close to the 40 on kick offs. My point isn't to toot my horn, but just to illustrate how pervasive our problems on special teams are...

Moreover, anyone else notice how almost all of Florida, what, 10 kickoffs, landed perfectly left of the hash mark on the 3 yard line?

We both have 85 scholarship players, why don't we have anyone with a leg to get the ball close to the goal line?

We have been ranked beyond 100 in Div I-A in punt coverage for the last three years...if my sources are correct.

We're dead last right now...i believe. I'm sure someone can look that up...along with kick return coverage.

The General is turning cartwheels in his grave.

Of course if you kick the ball to two of the best return men in the country -- you reap what you sew.

I posted this in another thread, but I'll put it here as well.

Punt return Defense - #119 (Dead last)
Kick Return Defense - #75
Net Punting - #108

ST by committee obviously not working. Return Teams are respectable at #31 and #20.

Total Defense - #102
Pass Efficiency Defense - #108
Rush Defense - #90
Pass Defense - #95
Sacks - #99
TFL - #111
Scoring Defense - #110

Defense is a mess overall.

Pass Offense - #31
Rush Offense - #90
Total Offense - #69

As good as the offense seems, it's below average.

Just putting numbers with perceptions on the board.

This does include today's games.

We are supposed to be a top notch program. I don't care who is returning punts, we should be able to cover them.
