honestly, special teams is such an important part of football these days, why don't we have some dedicated resources here?

We might as well spot every team 7 points before the start of each game if we don't hire someone to coach special teams.

It's not the Coaches so much as the people we seem to put on the Special Teams...3 skilled kids and who ever gets off the bus first is on special teams. I have never seen so many slow White kids on these teams as we have.

I yelled my ST suggestion for free but they didn't listen, "punt it out of bounds!". I'm guessing about 90k had the same idea

al wilson

Al Wilson should be the office linebacker like Terry Tate. Whenever anybody screws up he should be there waiting...in the lockeroom, on the strip, outside your house when you skipped class...you never know when he'll get you.

Bill Bates...best special teams player I ever saw. Made a living in the NFL for years as a special teams player.
He is a UT Vol.
Made the Pro bowl as a special teams player.
Born in Knoxville.
Attended Farragut High School.
Second team All-SEC as a junior and senior.

:salute:

more often than not college teams don't have special teams coaches. Its just not worth eliminating another coach.

Bill was awesome. Just loved sticking people and had a nose for the football. Did have a bad experience with Hershal Walker once though!

Not hiring a special teams coach has been Fulmer's biggest blunder the past several years. Hiring a dedicated TE coach when we don't even feature the TE has got to be the biggest waste given our obvious needs with special teams. That stubbornness right there is sufficient reason to fire Fulmer.

Duke has a special teams coach...Ron Middleton. Ring any bells? Special team "specialist" Fulmer was trying to bring in when the Kippy Brown stakes were rolling a while back.
