Speaking of James Franklin, interesting article by Finebaum

Geez I knew he disappeared in big gaames but these numbers are unbelievable.

Coming out of this weekend, Franklin fell to a 4-21 career record against AP top 10 ranked opponents at Penn State, a mark that falls to 2-21 against teams ranked in the top-six, including a 15-game losing streak in the latter category.

That record includes a 1-15 mark against AP top-five ranked teams, a 15-30 record against top 25 opponents, and a 4-17 record against Ohio State and Michigan combined.

I'm amazed when they give psu these high preseason rankings. There is no chance of franklin ever winning a championship.

I think Paul is strawmanning a bit here. Who says that he is an elite coach? I don't think you'd come across any pundit who thinks he's as good or better than Kirby, Day, or even Dabo (if you're looking at the whole body of work).

In this article by ESPN itself, he comes in at #8 with several pundits leaving him out of the top 10 altogether: Who are the best coaches in college football? We rank the top 10

their qb is still not very good. never seems like he turns it on against good teams. beats up on the bad, gets the talking heads going about how good he is, but disappears.

I would rank him behind those 3 and possibly Lanning at Oregon. Depends on your definition of, "Elite." I would say being ranked #8 out of 136 major college coaches is pretty close to Elite.

I was just taking issue with the quote from Finebaum from the article:
The veteran college football broadcaster says he fails to see how Franklin can be credibly considered one of the elite coaches in the country.
I honestly don't know who considers him to be elite. "Close to elite," sure, but I don't know anybody who says he's just as good or better as guys who have won titles.
