Hey folks. I'm not here to start a trash talking thread, but I wanted some opinions from more informed fellow football fans about how the Vols stack up against Carolina this year. The only game I've gotten to see is the game where y'all sent the Dogs home with their tails between their legs... but y'all sure looked pretty impressive. How has Tennessee's performance in the UGA game compared to the rest of the season? Can a young South Carolina offense find success in Neyland? Can a depleted South Carolina defense stop the Vols on the ground? Thoughts? Opinions?

If the Cock's offense is as fast as the offenses of the Gators and Cal then you have a good shot. Otherwise you'd better have a lock down defense and outstanding special teams.

Well you saw the absolute best game by far that we've played this year

IMO...if that teams shows up against SC then there's no chance for you all

I say this because you will beat us by controlling the ball on the ground and hitting some occasional 5-15 yard passes..

But if UT shows up like they did Saturday you won't be able to establish the run and you will have to rely on Smelley. From what I saw against UK he's got a noodle for a throwing arm

Of course none of us here know if that UT defense will show up the rest of the year...like I said it was easily the best game we've played this year

And even though Phil stepped up last Saturday along with his coordinators....SC will always have the advantage in the coaching department...

But alot could change between now and then...come see us after Bama and we'll have a better idea

Our best game was against UGA, by far. Our D is still suspect, so with Spurrier, yes you have a a chance.

Our offense can put up some points, but the run game is still in question.

I like Emmanuel Cook on your team, real aggressive.

Even Spurrier admitted it. On a press conference no less.
:)
WOW did not know that. My girlfriend worked in Gainesville a while back and had to give Steve his hiesman trophy pins back to him that he had left on his jacket to get dry cleaned.

We've had some problems with our o-line opening running lanes, so our running game has suffered. Smelley's arm isn't particularly strong, but he inexplicably has thrown only 1 INT that I can think of, and he overthrows receivers just as much as he underthrows... I've seen him put some good touch on passes though, that's for sure.

I honestly think the biggest threat going into Neyland is you guys, the fans. Smelley hasn't shown the ability to audible well, and he hasn't had to play in a loud and hostile environment yet (he played in Baton Rouge, but the bleachers were half empty due to the storm). I am afraid his cage is gonna get rattled... we'll see. Hopefully our defense can make some plays to help out our young offense like they did last week... we've got some ballplayers on defense it looks like.

I think we'll have a better idea of what Tennessee team we'll see the rest of the season this weekend when you guys play MSU. They're a solid team, all-in-all, and might give you a bit of a test. I sure wouldn't count em out altogether.

Our weaknesses are throwing deep and covering the pass. If the game is close or UT is winning, then throwing deep wont be a problem because it wont be a necessity. And your new qb and (from what i know) lack of standout wr will even out our lack of experience at cb.

If Tennessee gets down, then it could be a problem. But if its close or UT has the lead, its over.
