South Carolina reports 14 secondary violations...

"South Carolina's football program was cited for three infractions, two of which were the more severe variety.
The school said an assistant coach wrongly texted a prospect and football recruits watched a display that simulated a game-day experience against NCAA rules.
Also, an ineligible player was provided transportation to an away game.
The track program committed two Level I secondary violations. One occurred when coaches attended voluntary athletic related activities, the school said, while the other involved the women's track coaching staff allowing two prospects an official visit before getting proper approval."

Hmm, we catch grief for some smoke and mirrors and these guys are taking recruits to away games

Secondaries are really not a big deal... And like the above poster said, only 3 from football.

Only 3 of the 14 were for football....

Thank you, I was getting ready to post the same. While I think too big of a deal is being made of our violations, people often post the total for an athletic department and try to use that to "justify" ours. Our rate is actually higher than most other football programs....but I see that rate slowing down once Kiffin gets a bit more established (not that it really matters).

I bet the other USC has 14 or more, too. If you aren't accidentally bumping into the rules, you aren't trying hard enough.

It's important to remember that secondary violations are self-reported. It's a sign of good compliance when you are reporting all the silly stuff that doesn't really matter, like smoke machines and snacks.

Does anyone else think secondary violations are really stupid? I mean come on, impermissable snacks... especially since the schools self-report them... I just think its a giant waste of time b/c the ncaa isn't going to do anything about it anyways. I guess they just want to feel like they have power.. whatever

True dat

Shows signs of integrity within the program, I believe is what MH said...Keeps the NCAA from finding them on their own and turning them into something bigger than they really are

What snacks are 'permissable'? Bugles? Surely Pork rinds are permissable?

Bugles are not, but there's a gray area with pork rinds.

If bagged pork rinds are provided, it's not acceptable. However, if a primal cut of pork is used and the skin is excised and either fried (rinds) or baked/roasted (cracklins) and provided as an option as part of a standard meal that a student-athlete is provided, it is permissible.

(I may or may not be joking about this; I can see the NCAA drawing a line between these two)

Here is a question. Are those the same vilations Griff wrote about in a post showing how UT was in the lead? Or since they only report twice a year are they new violations that increase the Cocks total?
