Other than LSU and Auburn, nobody else played anyone close to their talent level. You could maybe say Ole Miss but Texas Tech has always had an atrocious defense.

The cupcake argument is more than legit. It's the first thing anyone would point out.

Having said that, it's amazing how many people now claim that West Virginia is way better than Tennessee, Tennessee was overmatched, Will Grier is awesome, etc.

A few days ago, Tennessee was more talented than some mid tier Big 12 team

True...and don't forget the Country Roads is really about Western VA...not West VA. LOL!

LSU and AU say "Hi"
Uh. You noticed that, too. Way back in the dark ages......when I was in grad school and UT was still on the quarters system... I found out the hard way that if you turn in a paper before making sure your research had been all conclusive of every element involved...I may as well just drop out of the course and re-take it next quarter. Methinks, OP, that some of you fellas missed a coupla' key elements. Keep trying.

Overmatched? How? Miami is overrated and Washington and Auburn were evenly matched.

They were, however, P5 teams that were in their respective conference mix the previous year. Not cupcakes, or conference cellar dwellers. Cupcakes are a staple of P5 schedules. It's good for the cupcakes football budgets, and necessary for most P5 teams to have a couple on schedule. Does it really matter if you open with a cupcake or a P5 non-con. we are all going to play both outside our conference schedule. Yes, we tend to open with the tougher opponent, but we always follow with the cupcakes before the FL game. The only criticism I would have is if an upper P5 team does not schedule a relevant OOC game.
