Pearl is not my buddy, but nice message board commentary. Once again, I apologize for thinking I might get some agreement that intensity has been lacking and it has cost us and almost cost us Thursday. It seems like it was no big deal and that happens sometimes, but it happened too much this season. Fortunately, we are still alive.

I also pointed out that Auburn who does not really have such great talent was playing a number 1 seed Houston who is not a fluke. They Auburn were 7th in the conference this year while we unfortunately fell from 1st in the country to 5th in the SEC.

Please continue with your stat man stuff if you like, but I would also like to understand why going 40% in the last 10 is productive and why the top coaches that I have seen in my lifetime did not seem to allow that to happen. Interesting that you just ignore that. We can change and have intensity which I have been saying, but that has been an issue this season. Chareles Barkley just commented on our intensity on defense today. I agree, but I think the offense had that attitude and I would be quite impressed to hear how we were that way during those losses earlier this season.

Please tell me also why we dropped the intensity and let a team we could have easily handled back in the game Thursday and why we let teams like the commodedoors and gturds beat us along with a&m plus not getting at least 1 against both ky and mo even though they were pretty good (Some may argue a&m, but I say not.

You are acting like anyone who has had issues with the performance is off their rocker.

Once again, while I have been disappointed by our intensity and purpose at times, I have never wanted coach fired.

Also once again, I want our coach to be intense on both sides of the ball. Great teams in many sports play great on offense and defense and do it with purpose and intensity. They look to make things work when times are tough and try harder and sometimes try new things.

The great coaches have been able to do that. Our coach can be great. Let's hope the team will continue from today and not fall back.

Interestingly, they still cannot tell us why we have had issues with pushing to win this year and barely made it to today and why the on and off. I understand an off game. The best have had that. I say that when such responses come, they will focus of Zig (who we miss reatly of course) instead of attitudes where one can be the quiet type and still have the full attention of the team and even the team can be like that and go out believing they will do what it takes..

Lack of intensity has nothing to do with our scoring droughts. We’re offensively challenged. We’ve known that since day 1. Now, we’re offensively challenged and our PG is hurt. There are just going to be rough patches we have to weather. Thankfully, our defense rarely goes into a drought.

Ok smart guy. Who is in charge of getting talent on the roster? The recruiting escorts? Dogs? Cats? It surely isn’t the head coach’s job to secure talent on HIS team is it? Sounds like your buddy Pearl has an issue acquiring talent all of the sudden. Oh and while we’re at it, look up Duke’s record for 2020-2021 and get back to me. I'll give you whatever I like and give you this:

Tennessee has to develop consistent intensity as I have been posting. You still cannot tell me why we were not doing well at the end of the season and not so great on Thursday when things got tight. Were we playing those number 1 seed types at those times?

Auburn did falter today under pressure from a very good team (with a pretty good seed don't ya think?). As I have said as well as others, it does happen. I'll add it happens at unfortunate times too.

You also think I want Pearl back. I have now concluded that there are a significant number of literally stupid people around. I will say once more:

I have not said I want our coach fired. I will add that I want our coach to be better than the others with one reason being that I grew up in this state, I graduated from the University. and I still live in Knoxville.

I have said multiple times that I want a consistent intensity because we can win and with that gain even more talent on the roster. Amazing how that works.

I gave an example of a coach from a team I rarely liked unless they were beating the ky jellies who was great at controlled intensity. Nevertheless, make up what you want to believe not matter what someone else says.

Obviously, that did not happen every time, but they knew how to do it. It's like we used to be in football. We could go out and take it although we only got it all once. Those big time bball powers did that in the regular season also and even in sports like football.

Now you're just coming up with stuff because you still cannot answer valid questions. Part of it is that we won today which is most important. The other is that some people have some issue about things we could do better at starting with coaching, but you still have to think we are just in fine shape and if go back to Thursday or the end of the season, we will still be just fine. Also, even though you have been told that I do not want the coach fired, you think anyone who has a concern is in that group.

It boils down to this because the following is an example I would love to have around here understanding that I do not expect or want some coach who is a robot trying to be like the person named in the example which now follows:

I really would love to have you explain how Coach K whose team I was no fan of would have felt that way that you do.

I take your point, but we can be better on both ends of the floor. If teams like the Chicago Bulls did it, along with Celtics and Lakers, we can do it. I will not be like them because they were the best in the world. However, teams that might lack a bit can learn to be better in whatever they need to get better at.

I would absolutely love to have Barnes' defense be able to create more for the offense which learns more to work to score. These are some good athletes and we know we have a darn good coach. We can be very good at all of it.

Nope. Just remember some that have outed themselves on air. Poli Joe recorded his own spot. But it wasn’t that effective. I don’t remember what his biz is called. Titans Bill has said that he is retired from the UT Art Department.

Thank you stat man. Pearl had one year under 20 wins at UT in a pretty good conference beating some teams who were quite good. Barnes was in the ACC, but I don't remember him beating NC and Duke a lot.

I still will take Pearl because his teams' intensity and I will also take Barnes if the intensity is there. That intensity was not there at the end of the season as pointed out although it must have gone above your head (Do you really think Krzyzewski would be relaxed about 4-6 over 10 games?)

That intensity was not there for a good bit of the second half Thursday, but the Vols pulled it out. I understand Zig's injury is big, but great teams overcome. Today seemed to be be that overcoming atitude although Duke's somewhat defensive orientation and youth were a plus for us.

Once again, intensity can help win games, but like I wrote above, it does not happen 100% of the time. It will happen more than not. Duke's old coach was like that with his attitude in my opinion. His teams played basically all of the time (not being a fan, but it's true). He just did not seem to be passive even though he is a quiet type guy.

Rick Barnes has been a good coach and sometimes very good. I hope this is one of his very good coaching years. I'm glad he has a good record over the years, but I would like to see him go deep in the tournament and now is the time for intensity every minute of every game.

We are still in it so that means we can win it. Go Vols!
