Sonny Dykes as OC?

He has no QB coaching experience. I do not think he would fit Butch's criteria. I think the writing is on the wall that Butch will be promoting an OC from within and hiring a QB coach.

1996...Navarro College: passing game/quarterbacks
07-09...Arizona: offensive coordinator/quarterbacks

Worst case, hire him as an "analyst" to get access to the recruiting bridges he's built.

Is this the new thing? Anytime a HC is fired someone creates a thread spectulating they would want to take a demotion to OC under a coach on the hot seat?

Be realistic.

Well well well I stand corrected. I didn't see that. Ok no was a bit too much then, but that's still limited experience.

Anyways, we already have a good idea of what's going to happen.

well, we wouldn't be setting a precedent by offering, and Sonny wouldn't be, by accepting...all been done before...:)

PS. Don't see it happening, though...:)

I know, I think we all have that anxious feeling like Butch is going to underwhelm us again with this hire, but then we have a little bit of hope that he will shock us and bring in a big name like he did with Shoop. The main difference is that was a defensive change, how much is Butch willing to change his offense?

Butch is gonna be hard headed on this. Most of the Vols fans is not going to be happy with who he choice. Just got that feeling. Don't expect any big name. I don't know why you people keep putting big names on here. It is just not gonna happen with Butch. There is a reason Alabama wins championships and we don't. Saban is not affaried to bring in big time OCs. Heck he had two on Bama coaching staff. Kiffin and Sark. We can't even get one big time OC.

No,this is an old thing. Happens every year. If there is a coach fired and/or looking for a job, someone on here who values him over whomever we have will speculate on our chances to get him.

And the reason for that? So if they get him, they can imagine somebody at UT read it, thought, "great idea". and every Vols fan owes him a big thank you if it works. And if they don't get him, they should have quenched their thirst from his fount of wisdom.

Of course, if the move proves to result in losses, poor team chemistry, or NCAA sanctions, they mysteriously suffer from severe amnesia, and have no recollection of that thread.

Butch will go internal as far as the offense goes. At the end of the day it will be his system that's on the field, not anyone else's. In fact he said it, that he wants to enhance the offense, not change it.

Butch wants to run the ball 60-70% of the time. Sonny wants to pass the ball 70-80%. I just don't see it working out.

He also said that by enhancing it he would welcome change and new ideas since that promoted competition and growth within the program. That would lead you to think he would consider an outsider, but everything we've been hearing has pointed inside the program. The truth is nobody knows what's going on inside the head of Butch Jones. We will just have to wait and see.

Jake Spavital has spent time with Sumlin, Malzahn, Gundy, Dykes, and Holgorson....he has spread principals with read option principals in his background does whatever the head coach asked...at Cal he was asked to throw it around a lot....Has coached Geno Smith and Johnny Manziel

It's what has happened since the gruden debacle. Fans make crap up, other fans take it as gospel, then get mad and blame the university when the rumors aren't true.

Thanks for the info. Solid resume. Seem to be a well-qualified, good-fit candidate for OC/QB coach at UT. Could probably bring some "fresh spin" Butch says he wants and easily switch over to Butch's system's terminology.
