Something to think about...

Last night, when Lauderdale committed, he said that CBJ and Coach Jake were saying they want our offense to run about 90 plays a game. Think about that. If that's happening, that about 20-25 plays a quarter.

Our offense is going to be fast, and so when I heard that I wanted to see how many plays a game Oregon ran. I didn't find the number, but I came across this article that talked about Oregons plan and scheme. But while they talked about the offense, they said it was the defense that was the most important to the speed of the game.

If the offense scores quickly, the defense is on the field more obviously. And most other teams offenses are not going to try to be as fast, they are going to grind it out, and play clock games. One Oregon player said when they played Tennessee, one of our players said, "Man, y'all keep playing this fast, I'm going to throw up."

I say all of that to say this. It's obvious that we are needing/going for depth on defense. Chip Kelly says that he played 22 players on defense at least every game. If our offense does its job, we do not need as much depth as we do on defense.

Therefore, if CBJ is following this strategy, he would need at least 6 solid LBs, 8 DL, and 8-10 solid DBs.

Look at this class:

LB- Bates, Mouhon, Weatherd, Bryant, Dews, Berry. Maybe Garrett, but I feel pretty good about those 6.

DB- Payne, TKJr., Berry, McDowell, Gaulden. There's 5 solid DB, add the ones from last years class, some of which CBJ handpicked.

DL- Henderson, Hendrix, Humphries,
Mosley, Ford, Barnett are 6 prospects we are in on, plus the ones from the previous class.

Obviously, every coach wants depth. But I think we are going to see a lot of defensive players and a lot of WR signed, because those are the ones that will be taxed most in a 90 play offensive scheme. They will be incredibly choosy with QB,RB and OL because they can be. I'm beginning to think that they will have a 2 deep on OL, and that will be it. I think they will try to keep 3 RBs on hand, in order to maybe run some 2 RB sets and to have one in backup.

I really love how this class is shaking out. It's no secret that defense is key to winning in the SEC. It's looking like we are going to eventually have a deep defense with a lot of solid playmakers that rotate constantly, and that bring the pain consistently through all four quarters.

I have never been so excited about recruiting and about the future of UT football.

It is CBJ's practice to have positional quotas, your post explains why. :good!:

See, if Butch is like Oregon in philosophy, then Bray would have never worked in his system. Butch says he will work with what he has.

But he wants players who can get positive yardage on EVERY play.

Friends, what did TB do frequently? He threw the ball away. Sure it avoids a loss, but it avoids a gain. Butch doesn't seem to want sole pocket passers who can't gain positive yards. But he doesn't want RG3s either. He just wants guys who have enough awareness, that when the pocket collapses, they can pick up 1-2+ yards. Therefore, he sees what he has on the roster and that's why no QB this year. Once again, JMO

The offense is simple in philosophy: Offensive line that contains a wearied defensive line and occasionally makes holes for the run game. Quarterback who can make short to medium accurate passes and can keep chains moving. WRs who have good quick route running ability. TE who are pass blockers but better as targets in midfield. Running backs who run north and south and hit holes quick.

The defense is a 4-3 that subs often, keeping legs fresh. This allows for frequent blitzes and rested DB coverage on tired receivers. And most importantly, the front seven have a nasty streak like in a fat mans underwear.

That's what I think our team will look like under CBJ

....nasty streak like in a fat mans underwear.

There are several things to say here but I'm too busy throwing up in my mouth.
