I'm not sure how the majority of you think, maybe I am overreacting, but something that really bothers me is the player mentality this team seems to have. For example, it doesn't take long for our team to get on twitter after the game and, like Butch, start to make some excuses for the way they played.

For example, here is a Justin Martin tweet:

"Lol i was gone hold my tongue but people starting to get real spoiled...when yall start to feel some type a way remember where we use to be."

I get what he is trying to say, but he said some similar things right after the App State game. It's like this team is just happy to be squeaking out wins regardless of whether or not they actually played sound football. It bothers me when athletes resort to social media to try and defend their play. If I was on this team, I would be redneck mad with our performance. Like I said, I could be off base, and maybe I am in the minority, but I just hate this perceived weak mentality we seem to have. The team cannot take criticism, they get way too defensive, block twitter accounts, and they refuse to own up to poor play.

They won by two scores. You are who he's referring to.

They probably say these things because that's what their coach is saying. Butch needs to tell them that, while a win is a win, how you play is also important. We have a lot of practice barely beating teams we should have dominated. That is a habit that will come back to bite us big time soon. Justin, keep thinking that playing like crap and squeaking out narrow wins is the way to go. See where this season ends up if that's your mentality.

Spoiled? By this team? We were spoiled in the 90's, this team has given us nothing to be spoiled about. White-knuckle wins over bad to very bad teams does not equal "spoiled".

I'll give them this, those "W"s in the column look nice, but when you watch the games and see how we came about them and against who, they sour in a hurry.

Come on VOLS, we want to be spoiled by epic beatdowns of obviously lessor programs, and thrilled by wins over quality rivals. Spoil us please, but we are in no way there yet.

9 points? You really want to stretch the truth and call that two scores? That is about as close to a one score game as you can get. Come on man. And honestly that isn't even the point. Fans have a right to be frustrated with the way we have played lately, and if the team cannot handle criticism that is just a weak mentality. They should be more concerned about improving our play and winning games than getting on social media to defend themselves.

The head coach knows the expectations are high. A win is always good but he can't be pleased with this mistake penalty filled game. Martin should be mad about how they played just like many fans. If Martin is sensitive about this they better beat the tar out of Florida or his feelings will be really hurt.

These guys need to stay of twitter. Many of us have been alumni/fans longer than they've been alive.

In the voice of Dory, just keep winning, just keep winning.

3-0 Plan A. All week long.

We will know what this team is about a week from today.

Go Vols!

I have no problems with him talking about "fans like me." At least I am "pissed off for greatness" while Justin Martin seems to be okay with sliding by on a 9 point win against Ohio and an OT win against a now exposed App State team. The fact that he is so easily okay with the way this team has played shows a clearly weak mentality. You can disagree with that all you want, but it's my opinion.

9 POINTS. That may technically be a two score game but calling it that is just an attempt to disguise just how close this game actually was.

Now he is on twitter literally arguing with fans. That just frustrates me to no end that he would do that. IGNORE THEM. Seriously. How weak minded do you have to be to sit on your phone and argue with essentially a brick wall?

You are a fascinating combination of self-aware and completely delusional.

I don't tweet at players after games. I am talking with other fans on a forum. Players arguing with fans is pointless because you aren't going to change a fans mind by getting mad at him. That is the point of my post. he is just picking a fight he isn't going to win ,which is completely stupid. Why is he even on twitter after a game like that? It's the last place he should be.

You cannot get to 9 points off one score, but you can from two scores. Therefore, it was a two score lead. It is indeed the smallest of two score leads, but two scores nonetheless.

I'm glad for the tough win. What I'm not glad about is who put this schedule together where we play like 100 games in a row without a break, against respectable teams, rather than cake walks and byes as we approach our biggest rivals. And we expect anything less than a ton of injuries. Guys it's only going to get worse as the season progresses. We may win out for all I know, but I know nobody would have ranked us 9th without Cam, Reeves, Kirkland, etc... It's gonna be tough sledding. I hope the 80 pound trophy, and tough wins vs. Ohio and App are worth it. That's what bothers me.
