Over the last couple days, I keep racking my brain trying to figure out what's broken within the UT program. We have...

1) Highest paid and historically successful coaches
2) More current player talent than Florida (based on a recent 247 data compiling roster talent)
3) Elite facilities
4) Top-level booster support
5) Incredibly passionate fan base
6) AD that loves the university & previously won us a championship

Something doesn't calculate. Also, looking back at last season, there were many bright spots, such as our unlikely win at Auburn and impressive all-around performance during our win at Kentucky. At that point, we just needed one more W to make a bowl and Pruitt was in SEC coach of the year discussions. However, all that positive momentum came crashing down after the Kentucky win with horrendous losses to Mizzou and Vandy to end the season. Rumors of players quitting and a divide in the locker room among Butch-era and Pruitt-era players started swirling. The way we lost to Georgia State is an indication that this is just a continuation of that poor player effort and execution that crashed our season last year. My point is with all this considered, there is something more than just poor player prep and coaches treating GSU game like a scrimmage, and it all happened after the Kentucky win. It's completely unfounded, but it's almost like select players are sabotaging the team. I cannot come up with any other rational explanation. Compare Pruitt's demeanor from presser he got hired and now--he looks completely defeated and this is just game 1! I say if there is still cancer on this team, cut them out. I rather lose every game this year and start fresh, rather than risk them affecting others.

What are your thoughts?

I think there could be a divide between the Butch Jones and Jeremy Pruitt recruited players. I think it's highly possibly that the team has quit on Jeremy Pruitt for some reason.

1. Pruitt is #5 in coaching salary in the SEC. In a big bunch of coaches who make in between $3-4,000,000. Far behind Saban, Mullen, and Fisher.

2. Pruitt isn’t an established HC. He’s still figuring it out on the job. That’s not what you want at UT. Plus, he’s replaced a number of coaches from last year. There’s not a lot of continuity. Most of these players have played for 2-3 OC’s, DC’s, etc.

3. UT’s talent hasn’t been developed. At all. Or, utilized effectively. See what Kamara is doing in the league, and how he was used at UT.

I just think it's a group of players from the BJ era that don't care. They don't feel as though they are JP guys. Two more years before we see any real improvement.

I stand by everything I have said that there are no excuses for last week.

But, by and large, the people who are currently playing are either freshman or players who couldn’t beat out guys who are now departed who were responsible for going 4-8 and 5-7.

I think I just solved your problem. You forgot this 1 input into your calculation....

7. 15 years of administrative malpractice from the date of Hamilton hiring to Schiano Sunday. 15 years of bargain bin hires. 15 years of investing in stadiums, buildings instead of investing in people.

I know you're a gator and all but will you just start a "Vol" account alias? I find it difficult to agree with you while reading that damn name. TIA

Tennessee will have a new head football coach before we see any improvement

I think we will see improvement on Saturday.

Heck even if Tennessee gets beaten by 20 it will be a huge improvement, over getting beaten by Georgia State.

Disclaimer: not sure why but I believe Tennessee will win Saturday.....(prob just the fan in me not willing to admit total defeat)

They can start by hiring someone who hasn’t been a coordinator only a few years!!! TN was desperate in 2017 and grasping at straws and they threw money at the one guy they figured wouldn’t say no to and here we are....wrong idea! Pruitt is a failed experiment and this season will prove that he’s not HC material!!

The problem goes deeper that the holdovers from the butch era. I think it was McDad that reviewed the roster and found 61% were Pruitt recruits or transfers. Even as 1st and 2nd year players that should have enough talent to beat Georgia State.

I think again that jg is a huge part of the issue. Say what you want about Dooley but if y’all remember Simms had an issue with holding the ball too long. He warned him once and then just benched him for bray. Why in the hell is jg’s job never in question?

The young guys behind him are worse/not ready?

The problem is putting too much stock in the KY win. Even Pruitt said the next week after the Missouri blowout loss that we made the same mistakes against KY but they did take advantage of them. You blow a coverage against Terry Wilson who cant pass anyway, it's no big deal. You blow coverages against Drew Lock and you give up 50.

OP I share the same lack of any remote explanation. I suppose there is a chance everyone completely over looked Georgia State. That’s about all I can come up with. I just can’t believe that our talent and coaching is that poor. Guess we will find out for sure this week.

I think it has to do with marbles. Hear me out first.

This goes back to the Tyler Bray era. Teams/kids want to play for all the marbles. Either the SEC Championship with a chance to win or the National Championship. What they don't want to do is practice for an entire extra month and miss the holidays just to play in the Coffee Ground Bowl in freezing Alaska.

That's why I think the team, even with Dobbs as QB didn't pull it out at the end with Vandy when we could have had a chance to play in the SECCG. They just didn't want to play Bama again!

Welll we shouldn't have beat Kentucky last year. That team came in looking down on us and we smacked them while they weren't looking. Could you imagine that lol? Kentucky was looking down on US?!?! And they will this year. They looked too damn good for us to beat honestly. I think we need to get our mouths smacked in by them (and that will probably happen) for our players to wake the hell up!

For whatever odd reason I have a feeling that they will too. Any game we win this year against pretty much any other team on our schedule will make us wonder why we couldn't do that against Ga St as well. If Bituli plays I think it will make a world of difference....
