Something’s wrong with this team

They can’t defend and have problems scoring. Length gives them problems with our inside game.

The plethora of turnovers is a catalyst for those things being compounded. It's a solid point but early in yesterday's game, turnovers cost us from expanding on any of the leads at that time. Careless passes are a killer

Yeah it’s called they aren’t very good and Ament isn’t a difference maker and is pretty terrible on defense. Combine that with an average offensive scheme in general and what you get is a team that will be lucky to finish.500 in conference play. There were some very poor talent evaluations creating this team
Yep and imagine what we could have done with this roster if we hadn't invested so much on Ament. In today's CBB world, odds are you're better off spending for a veteran player for one year than a one and done HS player. In his defense, Barnes really thought he had one of those sure fire 5 star studs in Ament, but it was fools gold it appears. Hindsight is always 20/20, but maybe the light comes on for Ament at some point in the season? Maybe we gel in March and shock every one? Okay...I'm reaching here, but what else can we look forward to at this point?

It was remarkable that it remained a one-score game given all the wasted possessions and the indifference of the bigs while Florida was killing us on the boards. When the dam broke, it seemed inevitable.

The difference in the game was remarkably to close to the point differential of points off turnovers. If we can cut our turnovers in half we can be a real contender

Broke with bout 5 minutes left first half ….

Indeed. Florida scored at least 28 points off turnovers, they showed that stat with a few minutes left in the game.
That was about half way through the second half. The differential to their POT vs. ours wasn't far from the difference in the total pt differential

Yeah we shot ourselves in the foot with all the sloppy passes.
And that's something that should be easy to improve upon. We'll see if they can do it. For sure, it will be coached up in practice. Executing it in the games is all on the players. Coaches can't control that in an intense game

My apologies if serious
Was totally joking. I made that same analogy in a post after the Arkansas loss.

Or is it roster construction and unfixable? My guess is we will improve on that but never really fix it completely.

Should have not posted that last post because it is so easy to criticize a team that lose, I think these losses especially to florida will and should piss them off enough to get a bit meaner.

Yea, now that you’ve calmed down a bit, you might want to consider deleting that post.

We never seem to have enough shooters and those that we do have somehow lose their shot once they get here.

Hey, I understand the importance of defense, but you have to have some balance. When I see guys like Carr who've been here and left lighting it up elsewhere, I just have to scratch my head and wonder if things couldn't have somehow been worked out to keep the guy? I mean what would he mean to this team/roster right now if he were here? What if we'd ponied up the money for Rice into throwing $4m at Ament? Wasted money, and I suspect it's the one move that will kill our season.

The kid just isn't physically ready to play in a mans league. His shot is MIA and his defense is nothing to brag about either. Given the NIL/portal/one season at a time nature of the college game in every sport, I just can't see how Barnes could have thought this kid was worth the money and that signing him was the right move to make. Hindsight is 20/20, and I hope the light turns on for Ament, but if Barnes keeps trotting him out there as a starter and he keeps playing like this, you have to wonder what that's giong to do to the chemistry on this roster?

Barnes is in a real bind with Ament. Can't bench him and how can he keep playing him? Others like Abram and Evans have earned more playing time IMO. How can Barnes keep giving Ament 30+ min a game? Should be interesting to watch. Glad I'm not in Barnes shoes this morning.

This team has only 2 reliable scorers (over 15 points)... How many players other than Ament and Gillespie have scored over 20 points - 3 times for the season !!!!

We are doing amazingly well at home this year and typically protect home court under Barnes. A&M comes in hot on a Tuesday at TBA tonight has me worried though. Can UT control the tempo? Will our guards feed the bigs early and often? I’m thinking UT -9.5 is very generous
