Did we get a trophy for being the SEC Regular Season Champs and UGA got one for being the SEC Tourney Champs? Which one is more important? Are they equal?! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Thanks.

After the seedings, I would say that question is still up for debate. However, you do notice that GA is a double digit seed even after winning the SEC tourney. Basically, the conference tourney determines the automatic bid for the SEC.

Yeah, I just feel weird with a regular season UGA at 4-12 being crowned the champ. You can't just gloss over our 14-2 regular season. Don't know, just weird.

This always sucks when it turns out this way. I think this season will go a long way in our maturity as a Basketball Program power. Next year we will be more focused in the SEC tournament with hopefully no tornado's. UGA, SEC Basketball Champs??? Yeah, right! I feel sorry for the team that got left out of the tournament because UGA won the SEC. Now that really sucks.

I don't really get the SEC Tourney. Unlike football, there are plenty of games to see the real Champion over the course of the season. Why have a SEC BB tournament?Or hey, lets not play the useless 4 months of BB during the regular season, and just wait for the tournament. It would save lots of time and money....

the tourney champ is who the conference has chosen as its automatic representative in the dance. Reason being, a different winner than the reg. season champ would give at least 2 teams invites, since the reg. season champ is most likely to receive an at large.

The tourney still exists for financial and NCAA tourney reasons only.

The reg season championship is much more prestigious.

I'm not sure a location can make a 4-12 team into a champion all on its own. But throw in a tornado and re scheduling out the azz and I think that helps.

It is an interesting question and I think the answer is that both are recognized. I am sure that UTK will hang a banner that says SEC Regular Season Champs and UGA will hang one that says SEC Tourney Champs. Same thing with the Lady Vols. LSU was regular season champs and UTK was tournament champion.

We got awarded the Sec Regular Season Championship Trophy before the South Carolina game on Friday. And yes it is more important than the Sec Tournament Championship.

Undoubtedly, if you were a fan of the Dawgs or one of the handful of bubble teams that arguably got bumped due to UGA getting a bid, I have no doubt that the tournament championship is very important. On the other hand, winning the regular season outright probably requires a consitency of effort and athleticism that is much different than a tournament situation.

Financial is the most significant. The conference could award the regular season champ its automatic bid and not hold a tournament--the Ivy League does that, and both the Big Ten and Pac-10 did until recently.

Saying one is "more prestigious" than the other is just flat wrong, IMO. They are totally different animals.

Bottom line is that if your team is the regular season champ you are getting in and a good seed so you are more focused on that. If your team would otherwise not be going to the Dance, then you think the tournament is the more significant accomplishment.

They just can't be compared in terms of "prestige." In fact, I'm not sure that "prestige" is even a relevant characteristic.

To elaborate, what difference does it make? Everyone is focused on the NCAA tournament performance. That is how you judge your year. That is how you maintain a good recruiting base.

No one says, "I want to go to (fill in the blank) University because they won their regular season conference title."

It's what he asked for.

I'll assure that basketball fans from around the land would tell you that the regular season title is more prestigious. It takes a much better team to win the season long journey, than the 4 day end of season blitz. That's not up for debate. The honor that most often falls upon the best team would be the more prestigious, IMO.

This debate isn't about the relative viewpoints of those winning the different trophies. I would every day of the week prefer your regular season SEC crowns from the past two seasons over your tourney crowns.

No they won't. They talk about how they did in the NCAA tournament.

And that's all.

To elaborate even further, how would you feel if you won the SEC regular season and the SEC torunament and got knocked out of the NCAAs in the second round?

Now, how would you feel if you were third in the SEC regular season, lost in the semifinals of the SEC tournament, and made it to the Final Four?

That's what I thought.

Both the regular season and the SEC tournament are preludes to the NCAA tournament. That's what its all about and everyone knows it.
