Someone got posterized

Chris Ryan from grantland.com on Harrison Barnes tweeting "Why jump B.Knight!":
Because you're supposed to jump, dummy! You're supposed to stop the opposing player from scoring. Look, nobody finds all this Brandon Knight R.I.P. stuff more hilarious than me. I'm a big proponent of dunk-as-finishing-move. But let's give him a little bit of credit here. Knight's Pistons were down 19 points at the time of this … incident. Nobody made him challenge one of the Game of Thrones dragons to what was essentially a suicide mission of a jump ball. I don't know; maybe it's just Sunday night/Monday morning blues, and I'm reacting to Blake and Co. hulking out on the bench, even though everyone can see how hard Knight hits the deck. Lots of players get Mozgov'd or Weis'd because they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. There's something pretty admirable about Brandon Knight throwing caution to the wind and trying to make a play here. He also had the stones/wherewithal to get up, dust himself off (once Greg Monroe and Charlie Villanueva were done staring at him like the man who fell to earth), bring the ball back down the court, get fouled, and make some free throws. Brandon Knight challenges people. He went after Kyrie and got his eyebrows singed, and he tried to dogfight with DeAndre Jordan and wound up on an express elevator to the earth's core for his troubles. We spend so much time celebrating the kind of play DeAndre made here, maybe we should spend more time celebrating the kind Knight makes.

I got no problem with celebrating a fantastic dunk by DeAndre Jordan, but this whole clowning of Knight is ridiculous.

I'm also biased.

Uh oh. Not Bill Walton has weighed in

@NotBillWalton: Instead of ridicule, @WojYahooNBA wants us to celebrate Brandon Knight's effort. Perhaps we could hand out Capri Suns & orange slices too.

Nothing like a lecture on toughness from a guy who spent most of his career on the disabled list.

I've read more stuff on the internet today making fun of Knight than I have talking about Jordan's actual dunk. Apparently all the cool kids would just let the other team do whatever they want because they're afraid of looking bad.

For me, I view it in the same way I view the clowney hit. The Michigan kid was just doing his job, and the other person's action is what makes the play. People will remember that Michigan player because he got lit up, and so will the pistons player. No real shame in it.

Clearly though, the nature of basketball that is heavy on trash talking will blow this up on the part of the defender, which I think is unfair.

I am really not a fan of these players just ducking out of the way for fear of being posterized. It seems as though you are more of a value to the team if you can contest the shot, unless the thinking of these guys is actually to avoid drawing a foul.

Props to Knight for coming over on help defense even though he was way outmatched and actually trying to defend

Can't fault him for trying to make the stop. Doubt you'll ever see a Clippers player get posterized because they only catch lobs, not defend against them.

That's not actually Bill Walton.

Props to Knight, but he's there for our entertainment so we should feel free to freak out about the dunk. That's why he makes millions. Too much pussary in that article.
