I know there's some who really appreciate Mr.Hurd, like myself but I simply do not understand why people are acting like he isn't our best offensive player. He has been since the day he got here and is a HUGE reason for getting Tennessee back to relevance. We're going to really miss this man when he goes pro. I love AK and Kelly a lot and they are definitely a better "fit" for the offense, but let's take a second and realize that Jalen Hurd is on pace to become the leading rusher at UT. We need to show him some respect for what he's done since he got here considering he's had virtually no offensive line to block for him. Jalen Hurd has given his all and then some in every game and I expect him to have a great game against Alabama!! RESPECT THIS BEAST OF A FOOTBALL PLAYER VOL NATION!!

I don't think any of us are hating on him.... We just see the stats... Alvin and our offense produced better numbers. I'm not saying bench him. I still love having him. I just think we should mix it up a lot more.

The worst thing to do would be to pit AK vs. Hurd in some kind of competition against each other. There is a way to maximize the talents of both for the best of the team and I have a strong feeling we'll see it in action soon!

Hurd was missed on third and short and he will definitely be playing on Sunday. Hating on ANY Vol is completely unacceptable .

Looks like the OP is trying to create dissention where there is none. Who exactly is hating on Hurd?

I haven't seen anyone hating on Hurd. Most are just saying AK should get more touches (which he should have been all along IMO). He's been very underutilized this season

Yep. Both are VFLs. All this banter about hating is silly. Need them both for the second half of this season.

Hurd should be rested and pissed off! Can't wait till bama game , we are going to need his physical presence because Bamer will try to bully us and you can't bully Hurd

Or maybe Texas A&M is 67th in the country vs. the run.

Where does Ohio and Appy State rank vs. the run?

Updated: I just checked. #20 and #34 respectively.

Of note, UT rush defense #86 in country.

Is that before or after our game against them? Kamara still averages over 2YPC more than Hurd dating back to the start of last year.
smh....Look at any teams stats. NFL, College heck high school that's almost always the case when you have a talented fast back behind a big bruiser. Do not get me wrong, both Kamara and (especially) Kelly are better fits to our offensive scheme. The thing is Hurd is just such a freak of nature that he is still better all around. The same comparison you made could be said of Chubb and Sony Michel or the starting Bama RB and whoever his backups are. Kamara is a high risk high reward back Hurd is money in the bank.

Hurd is going to consistently get you that 4.5. Yeah we see the times he gets stood up in the backfield but more often than not he is gonna get you those 4.5. Kamara's numbers are inflated by his higher number of long runs and his real value is actually as a receiver. Hurd is consistently gonna chug out yards and tire guys out and block like a maniac. The 2 guys actually compliment each other perfectly and make each other better because team has to prepare for such different guys AND Dobbs.

Here is where the big deal is. Fumbles. Between the 2 of them they have about the same number but when you put that number in context vs number of touches it is a different story. Hurd is less likely to put the ball on the ground. At least part of this is because of the nature of how he runs N/S vs. E/W. We know

Lastly Kamara taking 20+ touches is likely a bad thing because of the fact that would hurt his contributions as a receiver and returner. I honestly think that they should get a similar number of touches/targets but not running the ball. This team is at its best with Hurd starting and Kamara playing the role he does. I do not think Kamara has been allowed the number of touches he deserves to this point yet but... I think anyone that thinks a healthy Hurd is not our number 1 back is beyond silly.

The 2 of them remind me most of Darren Mcfadden and Felix Jones as opposed to Lendale White and Reggie Bush. Or maybe, just maybe, they turn out like Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders.

Career stats
Hurd 568-2594 19td's 4.56ypc
Kamara 163-990 9td's 6ypc
Kelly 56-272 3td's 4.85 ypc

I guess the OP is saying anyone who recognizes how well Kamara performed against A&M and suggests that DeBord should consider calling his number more often in future games is by default hating on Hurd since for anyone to get more touches Hurd has to have less?

Anyone thinking we didn't miss him need to consider why we couldn't seem to buy the time to go deep one time all game.

No one really. I think some are too sensitive around this.

There is always going to be a comparison between how two players at the same position play in a game.

Hurd and Kamara are two very different type of running backs and bring very different looks to the offense. The goal for the team is to win the game and that means running the plays that works against the defense you happen to be playing against.

Unfortunately it does appear that there are some that will suffer a melt down if folks point out when one verses the other does well.

I actually think Hurd could do with 3-4 less touches and Kamara 5-6 more targets. I think the overall outcome would be optimal like that. Then again I also think Kelly should get a few touches a game.

His title sets up a straw man for him to tear down. It's intentionally divisive and dishonest.

That said, I loved watching the duo yesterday do work. We definitely missed Hurd in some 3rd down situations.

Liked that we ran under center more often yesterday and wish we'd see more of that with Hurd on the backfield.
