Watched some of their highlights against Ole Miss, Memphis, and ND.
Offense:
- Taylen Green is playing high level football. Definitely an NFL calibre QB, and the best QB we have seen all year.
- I think a lot of his success comes from time. His OL has only allowed a few sacks this year, and he clearly looks comfortable and not rushed in the backfield. Ole Miss had 0 sacks, and only one TFL on a designed run.
- Green can beat you with his legs as well. They are not afraid to run him when it counts too. Patrino ran him 3 times in a row against Ole Miss for a TD.
- Their RB is no slouch either. It makes Arkansas a two headed monster rushing.
- Overall they are a very balanced offense, and can find a lot of opportunities for pay dirt.
- Heck, vs Ole Miss, Green was a monster with over 400 yards of offense over the air and ground alone. He was close to 400 against Memphis too.
- The more I look at this game, the more I feel like we will need to score 40+ to win. Arkansas will put up points a lot of points against our bipolar defense. Very much a first to 40 wins the game type feel.
- However, critical mistakes in both Ole Miss and Memphis doomed them. Both games were effectively ended by late fumbles by the offense.
Defense:
- A tale of two teams. While I feel like the offense is the best we have seen all year, their defense is worse than bad.
- They looked decent enough at times vs Ole Miss, but critical mistakes and miscues doomed them.
- Against Ole Miss, they did get a lot of pressure on Chambliss.
- The one thing I noticed is that as their games went on, the defense got softer and softer. This is usually the mark of a team that is not conditioned or not adjusting, or both.
- They are weaker over the air vs the ground. Very similar to us.
- A bad trend for them is missed tackles as well.
- Statistically they are the worst unit in the SEC up to this point (we are 14th in the SEC for reference)
You might notice I left off ND on the trends above. Not saying that game is an anomaly, but Arkansas straight up gave up after going down early to ND. It was apparent after ND jumped all over that weak defense that all the energy and drive as sucked out of the team. This is why I think the key to beating them will be to do the same: jump on them, prevent them from getting TDs, and watch them quit. Arkansas is a team that reeks of quitting on the season, and we need to push them over the edge early on. If we don't, then I think we are in for a classic shootout. They let ND pants them at home. Think about what will happen if we go up two scores in the first quarter in front of a hungry for revenge Neyland.
