Let's go back to the premise. Our offensive SYSTEM under RS and PF is not as effective as that of UF (or many other programs).
Wuerffel got starts because the other QB's on the teams were awful as well. If you don't think Wuerffel got more looks and more chances due to 1) coming from a Spurrier offense and 2) the hype from the Heisman you are not in touch with reality. The NFL is a business - they "invested" in Wuerffel and he got "starts" in hopes of gaining a return on the investment. He was a less risky investment due to the points listed above.
Is there any doubt that Peyton is a better QB than Wuerffel? They put up very similar numbers. So if Wuerffel (the less talented QB) was at UT would he put up the same numbers? I say no. We didn't run the type of offense that would create the same opportunities.
Having the most 2nd place Heisman's (3?) is completely unrelated to the chance that Wuerffel would be 2nd place at UT as well. They are completely independent events. Chances are much greater that he wouldn't be second. As a statistical guru, you should know that![]()
Spurrier and UF produced/had many QB's that could pick us a apart. Even the 2 headed monster of Palmer and Johnson picked us apart in the 98 game. The 5 turnovers we caused allowed us to get to overtime. Johnson, Matthews had time in the NFL. Grossman (another one that picked us apart) is there now and predictably sucking. Again, they were drafted and invested in because they showed productivity in college. The SYSTEM at UF gave them opportunities. Our SYSTEM has been less effective. Reading defenses can be coached (by some coaches).

Who is supposed to coach qb's to do that????
