It’s a fair question. I do think there’s a clear pitcher type that gives us trouble (hard and down). Georgia really only has one of those (Fisher) and she is very very hit or miss.

Harrison will pose some serious problems if she pitches like she did against Oklahoma. Just because it’s Georgia……

The Lady Vols’ fate going forward depends, I believe, on how the staff approaches and prepares for it even more than the players.

NOT to say that our defense (OMG!) and hitting (Lawd help us!) aren’t gonna need to improve, but …

I feel this year as I have every year that our coaches going into post-season are only barely thinly-veiled “pretend loose… pretend not worried … pretend not panicked.”

The way, every season, the vibe from the top is so obviously trying to show on the outside like everything’s cool, but then as games get under way you can feel that no one believes it as strongly as they are acting like they do. When the staff starts making the same decisions every season that say otherwise, when you can almost see the sphincter tightening, that’s when we are in danger of ending with a :::::thud:::::: … again.

Clearly the team needs to relax and just get up to the plate and make solid contact with the dang ball. They don’t need to worry about which side of the field to hit toward, or whether to hit a fly ball or a grounder. THEY JUST NEED TO SEE THE BALL AND HIT THE BALL SOLIDLY. They do that and they’ll be okay. They are all overthinking in the box.

It’s hilarious that Alabama got Belmont in theirs. Seems like the left side bracket is a juggernaut. I know we can lose any game on any given day…but geez. If our pitching can get on par and our hitting can generate…we should come out of our regional fine.

The last two years Tennessee has really benefitted from Kentucky's fall out of upper tier status. 5 years ago you'd often see Kentucky as the northern most host location so they would get these regional 2/3 seeds from the Midwest/Big Ten that aren't as good as the seed because they pad wins with bad conference games.

Last year it was Ohio State this year Indiana. If Kentucky had been a host Tennessee probably gets Belmont.

Amen, Sister.
I mean, why mentally muddle the at-bat with directives from the staff about what kind of hit they want you to get. Crap! ANY SOLID CONTACT gives us a chance at getting on base.

At this point in the season and at this level of softball, the hitting coach can just watch the damn games from the hotel in my opinion. There is no fine tuning at this point. Just make solid contact if you can see it well enough. That’s it.

I found it! I posted this a couple of weeks ago. I found the part about nurturing a players inherent batting talent insightful.

I think winning that series against Bama right at the end of the season will give LV's a boost for Regionals seeding. Supers host - don't see it. If Karen and staff cannot fix the lineup hitting may not make it out of the Regional even if being the host.
Well I am happy to report this comment of mine did not age well. I see a lot of you already have LV's booked for the Super but I still have big concerns of getting out of the Regional when the other team only needs to score 2-3 runs to win.

Waiting to see what lineup Karen puts out there Friday. Hope it is not the one she currently has been using. Now that Knight is healthy go back the one she used in the Clearwater Tourney. She is wasting Knight at the 7 spot.

I actually agree with Knight needing to be moved up. Although my optimal lineup would have Dodge lead off (second on the team in OB%) and then let Knight slap from the 2 spot which should put much more pressure on the defense

So before we get lost in the hitting woes, matchups, and how far this year’s team can advance in postseason quick little story I’d to share if I may: So in the year 2020 I lost both of my Grandparents on my mother’s side within two months of each other. I was extremely close to them as they had played a big part in raising me and showering me with love. Fast forward a year later in 2021 and my Father in law passed away from a heart attack. He was my wife’s best friend, and honestly him and I also had a great relationship which not everyone can say about their in laws. Needless to say, those two years were pretty hard on us. There really wasn’t much to get excited about or cheer about those days. So in 2022, my wife( who grew up watching the Lady Vols softball team her whole life) decides we should start attending more softball games in person. We had been to a few games before but not on a consistent basis like we do every year since then now. Long story short, these past few years attending games and cheering on the Lady Vols have been a blessing to us. Getting to see these players in person, getting to know about them, being around the fans and the atmosphere that Sherri Parker Lee stadium provides, and most importantly meeting and connecting with people that attend the games and work there as well has been a heck of an experience. Through faith and sharing in something together that both my wife and I love doing, cheering on this team and continuing to be a part of this experience has been a blessing like no other. We truly enjoy being part of Lady Vol and Vol nation in general and just wanna say thank you to all of Lady Vol Nation for making every season special. Go Lady Vols!! 🧡🤍
